Working Cowboy Competition
and Horse Sale

In mid-April, the equine marketing class produces a competition where stockmen from across Western Canada can demonstrate their skills in feedlot sorting, chute work, trailer loading, and pasture treating in a team format. Individual stock dog and ranch horse competitions are also held. Students vie for the opportunity to represent Lakeland College on a team in the competition. The College teams usually place well in the event.

The horse sale is held the day after the competition. Many of the horses in the sale will have competed the previous day and a performance preview is held prior to the sale. This sale is unique in that every horses will ride through the preview and sale ring. Consignors come from across Western Canada. Graduates of the Ranch and Stockhorse Rider Program have topped this high profile sale in recent years.
