Famous Ina Small Town – who needs the small town when you are this hot??
Anchor M Farms is no stranger to raising good horses, every year the McCook family would welcome the newest line up of horses that would end up in the show pen or the rodeo arena. 2008 would be a particularly exciting year as they welcomed a beautiful sorrel overo filly thatw as the product of World champion bloodlines. The story does not begin there however, Sandy & Chuck McCook had bought this particular foal’s mother, Ms Shameless as a yearling and began her illustrious show career in Yearling Longe Line. It was then that it was decided that they would not show her as a two year old but instead would wait a year and then pursue her APHA Championship. Sandy had said when she got that she would retire the mare known as ‘Sam’ & breed her, but she did not actually realize that would be at 4 yrs old! Since then, the mare has been a consistent producer of APHA point earners & in Sandy’s opinion, this filly new arrival may be her best to date.
This story continues when Sandy happened to purchase the stud fee for Special Invitation, an APHA World Champion sire, through a benefit auction & so with that in hand attempted the AI process. Unfortunately it didn't happen to catch that first year, but they were able to make it all work the 2nd year with the result of a beautiful colored filly. When purchasing the stud fee, Sandy really felt that this staillion would be a great cross with "Sam" not only because of who he was, but because she was sure she would get a bay/tobiano or bay/overo which were two of Sandy’s favourite color combinations. Well....Sandy describes the event of seeing her new foal as literally could have been blown over with a feather when the filly hit the ground...not only was she overdue, but the mare foaled outside on the morning of Feb.26/08......in the SNOW!!!! It just so happened to be a beautiful winter morning (where did that come from) but Sandy was horrified that her ears would fall off, or her feet!!! The baby was then whisked into the heated barn immediately & then they had a good look at her coat color and could not believe that they had gotten a sorrel overo.....and a loud one at that!!!
Appropriately named Famous Ina Small Town, or Miranda, has been a peach to deal with says Sandy. She learned everything in one lesson.....she just gets it done without fuss or bother, a trait that Sandy feels will carry her a long way to being an outstanding all around performer.
In the show season of 2009, Miranda swept the In Hand trail scene, Sandy’s specialty, winning circuit champion or reserve at every show she entered. This included Championships at the Zone 10 Zone o Rama (judges commented that she had the best pattern they had ever seen!!!!), as well as the Zone 1 Zone O Rama Futurity in Nampa, Idaho. At the conclusion of the show season, Miranda earned 53 APHA IHT points, and is unofficially second on the All Time Lifetime point leaders list for In Hand Trail, and she entered only 5 shows! In the fall of 2009 Miranda has been offered for sale, if you are looking for a future all around contender, this is a promising young mare with some of the industries most current bloodlines, and she now has a show record to go right along with it. The APHC would like to congratulate the December Rising Star – who found fame outside of her small town of Winfield in the big show pen! *Thank you to Sandy McCook for providing info and pics of ‘Miranda’
