Scat
came to us in November 2005 when he was purchased as the high-selling
Ranch Horse Prospect at the Canadian Western Agribition. Since his
arrival, he has been shown in a wide variety of performance events
from cutting, working cow horse, reining, ranch horse competitions,
and team roping, earning over $6300 and numerous trophy tack items
as of Fall/09. He has earned his own fan base and anyone who has seen
Scat perform in the show pen, knows he is something special. He always
enters the arena with the desire to win.
Scat is also used consistently around the ranch and feedlot and is
our main horse for ponying broncy colts, moving pairs and halter
breaking the foals. He loves to get out and do a job in the off season
and in between his shows.
He has a willing nature and does whatever is asked of him, yet is very
competitive with a no-fear attitude and a will to win. He has an abundance
of heart and try with no regard for his personal safety and will do
whatever it takes, in whatever conditions, to get his cow. He is a
natural and loves to compete! He is very versatile, athletic and agile,
and has a deep, natural aggression towards cattle. He also carries
a great mind and quiet disposition that makes him a pleasure to be
around and the outstanding conformation and beautiful movement that
makes him stand out in a crowd. It never ceases to amaze onlookers
that at the shows, we can throw our young son on his back to go warm
him up and double his friends around.
He
is a very smooth mover in all his gaits with a natural low and
collected headset, has a level topline, is very pretty on a cow,
has plenty of presence and is confident in all his maneuvers. He
also has very quick
and clean turnarounds and is very cow smart.
Scat has nice overall balance standing 15hh with a deep, well defined
chest, square hip which carries down through his gaskin, good feet
and bone, a small, attractive head, a clean throatlatch and a very
kind eye. He also has a low hock set, strong forearm, strong through
the loin, a short back and is flat-kneed - attributes which all contribute
to his gorgeous appearance and ability to perform.
Scats first foal crop hit the ground in 2007 and he has been producing
outstanding foals. They all carry his friendly and quiet disposition
as well as his gorgeous head, ideal conformation, and beautiful movement.
They should be able to excel in any event involving a cow and have
the ability to stop, slide and turnaround. Although we have not had
the chance to start one of Scat’s foals under saddle yet ourselves
due to the fact his babies have sold out every year, we have heard
great comments about his offspring and their trainability, and look
forward to seeing them hit the showpen.
Watch for Scat's foals to enter the working cow horse, cutting, reining
and team roping pens when they come of age!
