It is a unique format that has become the signature event of the Mane Event which made its Alberta debut this year at Westerner Park.

“I’m really happy that my horse did so well,” said Rother. “She worked things through and came out good.” Continue Reading »

Jay O'Jay Trainers ChallengeMane Event Expo Logo

Red Deer, AB — The Trainers Challenge at the Mane Event continued Saturday with the trainers each having two round pen sessions with their horses. The crowd eagerly followed their progress and were the beneficiaries of the knowledge of the three very experienced horsemen, Raye Lochert from California, Steve Rother from Oregon and Jay O’Jay from British Columbia.

Rother was clearly in his element as he interacted with the crowd, showing off his athleticism and his horse Josie’s good nature as he mounted his horse, stood on her back, and practiced the elements that will be included in the Finals. “We got the confidence, we got the trust, and we got respect,” he told the audience. “You have to get the horse to truly believe in what you are doing.” Continue Reading »

Red Deer, AB — Equine enthusiasts and horse lovers of all interests began converging Friday at Westerner Park where the doors opened to the Mane Event Equine Education & Trade Fair. It is the first appearance in Red Deer for the Event, which has been drawing large crowds in Chilliwack, BC and Ridgefield, WA for the past four years.

“There is a real air of excitement about us bringing the Event here”, said show manager Gail Barker. “We have had a lot of encouragement from the horse community, including the Alberta Equestrian Federation which has really been supportive.” Barker said Friday’s attendance was the best the Mane Event has ever experienced on an opening day. “I guess the saying, “if you build it, they will come” is true!” she said. Shawna kickin’ butt at the NRBC

by Shonda Day

Just wanted to let everyone know that Shawna is having an awesome show down at the NRBC!! She is showing “This Chics on Top” – aptly named I must say – owned by Outrider Ranch. In her first go on Wednesday, she scored a 222 which put her 15th out of the first 100 horses in the open division. Today, another 86 horses vied for a spot in the finals on Saturday. Only the first 30 horses make it back – yikes. Guess who is running against the big guns on Saturday? Shawna and Dolly!!!!!!! Her first year in the Open and did her and Dolly ever follow in their winning Futurity ways. Let’s all wish them luck on Saturday in the finals. Good luck to Shawna, Outrider Ranch and Dolly in Katy Texas. Here’s hoping the chicks kick butt!

Thanks to Shonda Day for the update. We are hoping to continue to hear how these great Canadian competitors are doing.
