30th Annual Shamrock Quarter Horse Breeders Sale
The 30th Annual Shamrock Quarter Horse Breeders Sale was held Monday, August 6, 2007. The day started with a half inch of rain and by sale time the sun was shining brightly on the sale attendees.
STR Squeak Toy Lena, an unstarted 2-year-old daughter of Peppys Squeak Toy out of a Perry San Dry Doc 17 mare, led off the sale, going to Rob Krieger of Lannigan, SK for $2000. Sleeping Turkey Ranch, Lloyd and Jan Turner, Shamrock consigned this filly.

Cedarlea Farms lead off foal, Cedarlea Zanparrsnip (pending), a powerful sorrel colt sired by Zan Parr Arrow out of Cedarlea Sheza Snip, daughter of The Jewel Snipper, made a good impression on his first trip to town. After a hotly contested battle, Glen Walker, Rosetown, SK, repeat buyer, became the new owner for $3600. Glen was presented with an Eqvalan jacket donated by Merial – thanks to Lee Sinclair – as buyer of the high selling foal. Glen also purchased Cedarlea Snips Tyree (pending), a stand out 2007 son of The Jewel Snipper and Tyree N Baileys, daughter of Watch Tyrees Dude.
High selling horse of the sale was proudly consigned by Nels and Eva Linklater of Burnham, SK. The Linklater name is synonymous with the Saskatchewan Cutting Horse Association with Nels serving many years as President, show director for the Swift Current cutting show as well as competing and Eva devoted many years as secretary / treasurer. Their proven cutting mare, Peppy Faline, a 1995 Genuine Peppy daughter, bred to the Sleeping Turkey horse, Genuine Oakridge topped the sale at $5200 going to Perrin Quarter Horses at Maple Creek, SK. The Perrins were presented with a cotton sheet donated by the South West Animal Health Centre and the Hodgeville Vet Clinic. Perrins also purchased Cedarlea Jessesjewel (pending), a 2007 filly sired by The Jewel Snipper and out of the good producing Dry Doc Freedom daughter, Freedoms Easter Jess.
Dans Little Major, a 2002 gelding by Sir Lance Lot Sir out of a Major Bonanza daughter, consigned by Gerry Graham of Webb, SK, attracted a lot of attention and Kyron Rude paid $3500. to take this stout, well broke gelding home.
Cedarlea Two ID Bear consigned by Cedarlea Farms and an 11-year-old grade mare both sold for $2900. Bear, a 6-year-old gelding, sired by The Jewel Snipper out of the good old Country Roan mare, is a full brother to the dam of the high selling colt. Remount Ranch Inc, Duane Farnell and Ian Leeman of Chaplin, SK purchased the big gelding. The well broke, pretty chestnut mare consigned by Harold and Marg Strauch went to Elkhorn Ranch Ltd., Hugh Williams of Pennant, SK.
Amber Strauch sold her 4-year-old red dun gelding, Coy Poco Chex to Amos Abrahamson of Maple Creek, SK for $2000. The Sleeping Turkey substitute lot, a 2007 Genuine Oakridge Freckles O Lady filly sold to Philip and Karen Brundage from Nipawin, SK for $1800. They were also the volume buyer with 3 head purchased. He was presented with a bottle of Eqvalan Liquid Dewormer donated by Merial.
The 5 top selling horses averaged $3620.00 and the top ten averaged $3010 with the average on 43 horses sold $1482.00.
At the conclusion of our 30th Annual Sale, the crowd was treated to a roast pig and the fixings, compliments of the Strauchs, Turners and Deobalds and ably prepared by Rodney Klassen and Rose Doll. Thanks to all buyers, bidders and everyone who attended our sale.
