January 2008 Free Draw
We have drawn for a winner for this draw. If you would like to enter our free draw please go to the one for the current month. We will be announcing the winner as soon as she replies to our email. Lynn
This month we are drawing for a signed copy of Ben Crane’s book “Spur of the Moment”. All you have to do to enter the draw is to add a comment to the bottom of this post. If you would like to answer our “Question of the month” it is: Are you planning to increase, decrease or keep the same horse numbers this year?
They’re calling it the cowboy book of the year.
Spur Of The Moment is a stunning coffee table book of 80 pages of western art depicting people, horses, cows and other forms of wildlife and the humorous situations they get themselves into. A retrospective compilation of over 100 paintings celebrating Ben’s colorful career as one of Canada’s premiere western cartoonists from early childhood to his present status as one of Leanin’ Tree’s high selling artists. Endorsements and contributors to this questionable book include Jack Davis, one of the founders of Mad Magazine; Mike Scovel, Leanin’ Tree’s top-selling artist; and a host of other artists, collectors and western artisans who ought to have knowed better than to lend their unsullied names. Text by best-selling family and humor author Phil Callaway, foreword by western cartoonist legend Boots Reynolds.

i am hoping to increase by one more horse or pony more for acompanion for the one i have
This is my favourite site I check here everyday to see the new horses. But can you please delete the sold ones, I have emailed a couple people about horses and they have let me no they are sold. But please keep up the Great work!!!!!!
Folks can mark their horses sold in the classifieds but some prefer not to mark them sold for various reasons including that they want people to continue contacting them as they have similar horses still for sale. We cannot know they are sold if they don’t mark them sold and therefore cannot mark them sold ourselves. Thanks for your comment.
Northern Horse is my favorite! I check it all the time because I am planning to buy another horse this year.
Increase! I did the decreasing part throughout the fall, now I’m shopping to replace my cow horse, he’s ready to retire.
I already have 19, with more on the way for spring, guess I better sell a couple!!!
Just sold one today, but have a foal coming so will even my # out again. Looking to & Have done some downsizing lately but still have 1-2 that could probably be sold. Not looking to purchase any, but still get tempted reading the classifieds, lol.
PS Northernhorse is one of my FAV sites keep up the good work!!
I think I am staying with what I have. I like to look though!
Definetly don’t need anymore…can’t resist the northernhorse classifieds though!!!
last year i sold 2 and raised a foal for a balance of 5..this year
i need to sell 1 and buy or break a new trailhorse..no foals this
year because of the soft prices in b.c…foals sell for around 500.00
and that doesnt cover stud fees let alone feed shots etc for foundation aqha..i will miss having no litttle ones but my wallet wont
m
We are looking for another horse. Always good to have a good challenge!
Yes by just one horse - but can you just buy one horse??!!!
Always check your website first for info - and yes we are considering increasing our horse count by one.
Yes! hoping to get a new one, to make my graduating year that much better!
I just sold one but have a foal coming. I will likely try to sell one more and probably end up buying another. It’s a disease I tell ya!
I always want more horses but I’m in school this year so I think I will stick with the two I have. Although one could be for sale and I’m always on Northern Horse so you never know. I think I want a baby
This website is great I frequent it quite often! Thanks Northern Horse!!
Thank you for the excellent site, we are currently looking for a horse trailer and we check the site everyday for new listings. We currently have 8 horses and will breed our first brood mare this June. Thank you for a great site.
I really can’t resist the classifieds but am sticking to one horse for now as i board my horse. And really, it means i can give all my affection to her.
What a great site
I’d like to decrease by selling a few of my sale horses but will also be breeding 1 or 2 mares.
I’ll be increasing by 2 to start with; one baby on the way and I’m buying a yearling.
I am trying to get down one my numbers as well.Debbie who was looking for a horse trailer I have one for sale as I am getting down on numbers. It is a logan ranger in really good shape, 2 horse angle haul but if you take out the divider you can fit 3.
I am planning on keeping the same good old horses I have….no increase this year!!
I would love to get another horse or two this year, but gotta convince my husband first
Want to increase by one this year.
I just sold six mares on January 3rd!! Nice way to start the new year! We are decreasing our brood band and buying 2 more saddle horses this year! My last equine purchase was from this site!! I bought Disco Holly Disco(Disco Dude daughter) on your website back in October!! Yay!! What would I do without Northernhorse?? Keep us the great work!! =0) Darcie
We have bought and sold horses, trailers and equipment on your site a few times. Besides being a great selling/buying tool, it’s also a great site to visit daily, just in case there’s something we need?!? Thanks for the good job you’re doing.
You know i have a great cow horse that i use for everything but i am always looking for my dream cow horse, and so if i find him i will increase my numbers and buy for sure. I love the Northern horse site, it is a great place to shop and i find others feel the same so if i am looking i am looking here.
Thanks
A.A.
We just moved to our very own farm 3mos ago (a dream come true!), so an increase is definitely in the near future! I am so excited to finally be able to have my Horse in the back yard, after 7.5yrs of boarding, and to finally have the opportunity (and pasture) to find a few more dream Horses. =) I love checking out Northern Horse everyday to see the new Horses posted for sale.
Hi! I don’t have many bad habits, but I must confess that Colt Production Sales and private colts sale Ads are my major vice. Right now I have 11 horses and 4 of them have a life long home with me, but the rest I will train and sell, which keeps me in my habit of buying! So the answer to your question is keeping some for sure, selling some for sure and always looking for more to buy. Thanks to Northern Horse I have matched up several of my boys with other homes and most of them their life long homes! I just love this site!
I bought a new horse a couple of months back, saw some good horses on Northern Horse (but actually bought one I found out about elsewhere) and keep on looking although not planning to get another just yet.
Expecting foals in the spring but also planning on selling some. The Northern Horse site is great , it sure helps us breeders market our horses. Keep up the good work and “Thanks” for a job well done!
I have the equine fever…and am always looking to purchase to improve my breeding herd. I also have to sell off some to keep the numbers at a happy mediam - love this site to be able to do both.
Right now I have three horses, and this year I plan on keeping my number the same because I have a young project on the go.
Just going to stick with one horse, attending college and would love to have more but I’ll wait till I’m done!
Would like to increase by 1 in the spring. Need a pony for my 5 year old son, as by summer his 27 horse will be fully retired.
:{
Hi. I am planning to sell one more horse this year but my mare, Lady Poco Tolo, a reining mare is going to have a foal by Solanos Peppy San in April, so overall, we are going to stay the same, with five horses.
Love this site!! I try to check it everyday! Horse numbers will increase in the spring- 4 new paint babies!!
Would love to see a feature on this site that would notify you if a certain type of horse, or item, has been posted for sale. eg: If I am looking for a Silver Supreme saddle, and one gets posted, then the site would notify me of the new saddle posting - especially if I already have a “saddle wanted’ ad posted in the wanted section.
Great site, and I hope to relist my new website here again.
Trying to downsize, actually more of a shuffle. Everytime I sell one I seem to find another to replace it. I’m such an addict!!!
PS Absolutely love northernhorse.com, I check it out all the time.
Love to browse this site and check out all the horses!
I have 3, and I am definitely adding one more this year, I want my black + white paint! (Have ALWAYS wanted one)
We will probably be purchasing more horses this spring as we are always looking for future prospects. We are also looking for a few more broodmares.
I’m sure the numbers will stay the same, but I’ve got a couple of horsesthat I’ve been working with that are ready to go on to new homes…and new ones always seem to find their way to me
For the 2008 year, I plan to purchase a few pony mares to breed to my reg. pony stud. This spring I’m expecting two new foals from my miniature mares. Last year was my fist foal crop since 5 or so years ago!
I’ve looked at Ben Crane’s Spur of the Moment book and I really love what I have seen. I met Ben Crane once when he came by for a 4H hosted event. His shows are great! I would love to see it again.
For the coming year 2008 I plan on improving what skill I have in horseback riding and communicating with my horses. I still need to set up my place in order to do this properly so that list of chores will be added to the present one.
This will be the year where I do more trailriding and for once, put myself and my dreams first! Not getting any younger so I had better get started.
Will also try my hand at Cowboy Poetry!
Yes I need to decrease my herd size this year by 3 head. I can’t seem to pass up a good buy!
We are looking to downsize this year, we have not bred any mares for two years and still find that the herd is too large to manage effectively (besides we only have room for 10 in the barn ! LOL
Removing the login requirements to the Blog has definitely increased the activity. Good to see!
Northernhorse.com is a site that I have vistited daily for over 10 years. I have found it to be an excellent resource for my equine interests and it is my first site to open every day - several times.
I bought my first broodmare from Lynn in ‘98 and she has continued to be a great friend and advisor for all these years. Their idea for Northernhorse.Com and their continued dedication to it’s improvement is both valued and appreciated.
Thanks
I plan to reduce my horse numbers by at least 3 this year. One more ‘MCR’ broodmare that will be very hard to part with - but having decided to no longer raise foals, she is just too nice to have as a pasture ornament. And, 2 - two year old geldings that are ready for jobs. I find it easy to say - but in truth I get far too attached to each horse and the ’sell’ part is very hard for me.
I have come to know that I am far better at hoarding horses than I am at parting with them. Although, it is indeed a pleasure to look back at the countless hours and see the results of trusting and willing partners that you have had a hand in developing.
All horses that you want to keep for yourself
Like your site! I am selling a saddle horse mare but looking for a team and am foaling 2 mares so looks like an increase!
Unless someone buys the colts then we might be even; but with all the horses for sale its often hard to pass up a good horse deal!
We wish to sell some and possibly buy one back. Plus expecting three foals so I guess increasing this year.
The answer is a mystery. If you’re asking me, I’d love to find the most perfect horse for my 5 year old who is anxious to ride solo. But if you were to ask my husband, well, he thinks that 2 is quite enough.
Increase - Increase - Increase
2 foals on the way. Stallion shopping for next year. Northern Horse classifieds every morning over coffee.
What a habit…
I am always looking for a new horse.
The best place to shop is NORTHERN HORSE.
I check this site daily.
hopefully sell a couple, possibly 1 foal coming
LOVE NORTHERNHORSE!! WE HAVE SOLD A FEW HORSES ON HERE AND HAVE OUR WEBSITE LINK ON THE RANCHES PAGE. WE ARE ALWAYS BUYING/SELLING MARES AND BABIES TO BUILD OUR PEDIGREES STRONGER. WE HAVE 9 BABIES DUE THIS SPRING AND CAN’T WAIT!:) MAY ALSO COME ACROSS A MARE OR TWO TO BUY….? ALWAYS LOOKING!
Hi,
Love your website and have used it to buy and sell horses. I keep saying 5 is enouch but find myself checking out the site for new listings every day. Guess I’ll buy another one.
I would LOVE to increase, I have aspirations of competitive trail riding one day and don’t think my mare can do it so I’m looking into Standardbreds! So we shall see as soon as school is out the search is on!
I just bought a son of Dry Doc and I plan on buying many more mares in the years to follow.
Between my dad and I we are hoping to get another horse and a few miniature for his driving. So that would bring our grand total of 2 big horses and 8 miniature.
Love your website. We have sold two cutting horses through it. We look on it often for young horses. Keep up the good work.
Hoping to decrease the # of horses we have by at least 3.
I am planning to buy at least one more horse this year.I already have 8 with 2 on the way hopefully.
Great website!!! My husband and I have downsized to two! Both mares and we love them dearly! As we are getting older, we feel the two we have will be with us hopefully till we can no longer ride or do the work Can’t imagine not having any! Tried that and I only lasted 2 weeks before getting one of the girls I now have!! LOL! They are addictive and such awesome therapy and company. They love unconditionally! Too bad more people couldn’t take after our four legged companions!
Keep up the good work!!!!
It’s been years since I’ve owned a horse but thanks to a neighbour that is about to change so the number of horses in my life is definitely going to increase this year….maybe even by 2!
We have one for sale & 3 foals coming that will also be for sale; so if it all works out, we’ll decrease this year by one… I love looking though; always looking at new mare prospects! The size of our land keeps us in check with our numbers, whether we like it or not. LOL This is by far my fav site of all!
Selling a mare I think, maybe getting one more broke horse…
we are planning to decrease our herd.
I have 2 lovely Paint 2 yr olds that need new homes so they can get trained and reach their potential.
I also have a super nice Paint show colt that I would like to sell to a show home as I will not be showing in Halter this year and he will be a lungeline winner.
Never enough time to get these guys as broke as they should be, so they need to go to new homes.
We have 2 mares that we will breed this year, and cannot keep all the babies - sell the good ones!!
I have already increased the herd by one this year. Would love to get more, but hubby says no.
I enjoy the 4 that we have, but I always enjoy browsing through the ads on Northernhorse! You just never know what you might find!
We have been trying to decrease our numbers. Down from 15 to 9 so far, but I still have a few to go.
Stay the same.
I would like to sell two and keep one.
Havbe sold a couple recently. Never stop looking, though.
Have sold a couple recently. More to sell, but never stop looking for one to buy.
Never enough! I want more!lol
We are always looking but believe we have reached our limit for now. With maybe eight foals coming this year we will have enough on our hands. Still have two that we are trying to sell maybe then we can buy one more.
Love the site keep up the great work.
