The Good Old Summertime
We are getting lots of posts for our Events page. There are already lots of fun things to do this summer. In fact some clinics I hoped to sign up for are fully booked already.
Over the past winter the fact that so many more people are using their horses in the winter came up quite often in conversations. I can remember when… my kids shudder when I start with that line, apparently my long term memory is still pretty good, but I can remember when hardly a horse in all of Alberta sold over the winter. I can remember when neither myself nor any of my friends put a saddle on their horse from late fall until spring. And now some of my friends are bragging that their horses are really fit from riding in arenas all winter (and they are too, of course) and they think we should all head out on a trail ride in the very near future.
Well, I do have a horse that is fit. (Only because I just bought him.) And I am a keener to go riding in pretty places even if I know I am going to be a tad sore. So we may see you on the trails soon.
Although we live in central Alberta, we have very seldom ridden our horses in the mountains or anywhere except in the pastures checking cattle or over to the neighbours to help gather their cattle. Perhaps having lots of livestock and 6 kids kept us a bit tied down? But now we have more opportunity to be more mobile and have been discussing riding further afield this summer. So we would love to hear about some specific places that you love to ride.
We love mountains and prairies, don’t want anything really rough and challenging but we have ridden pastures checking cattle for quite a few years and our horses are pretty sensible. We prefer to camp in our trailer and do day rides as our packing skills are negligible. We would love to hear of some of your favorites so we can go and give them a try. Maybe we should set up a site for folks to send photos and stories of their “summer rides”. Anybody interested?
