NSBA Classes
Steve Schiestel sent us this information regarding the NSBA classes being offered at the AQHA shows.
I’ve had some people ask me why we offer NSBA classes at Wild Rose Circuit and Canadian National Quarter Horse Shows.
First of all, there are two different types of NSBA events offered at both shows.
NSBA futurities – By having the futurities offered registered with NSBA winning horses will have their earnings recorded with NSBA. I can tell you from experience that when you try to market horses in the deep south having the ability to tell potential buyers that your two year old has $4,000 in NSBA earnings means a great deal more than telling them that you won a couple of futurities that they have never heard of before. These futurities are all breed. As a result the earnings are recognized by paint, appaloosa and quarter horse breeders alike.
NSBA Duel approved classes – This is a relatively new concept. 2006 was the first year we saw these classes in Alberta. They are quarter horse only classes and run within the AQHA class. You have the ability to earn NSBA points just like you do with AQHA. For points all you need is an NSBA membership for the owner and exhibitor. You have the ability to compete in both an AQHA and NSBA class at the same time. You don’t have to enter both but there is real value in the NSBA points from a marketing stand point and if you register your horse with NSBASIF your points can be rewarded with cash!!! Memberships can be purchased at the show office. A list of offered dual approved classes is at the bottom of this email.
NSBA Incentive Fund
If you have earned AQHA Incentive Fund money or have heard of the Kentucky Incentive fund then you should be very excited about earning points in the dual approved classes. If your horse is eligible to be registered in the NSBA Stallion Incentive Fund you have the potential to earn cash for your points very similarly to the AQHA incentive fund. The biggest difference that I see…. the projected payout for 2008 is $80 per point!!! To be eligible your show horse must have been sired by an NSBASIF enrolled stallion. Here is a link to the list.

If you have met this criterion then you need to register your horse with NSBA. There is a grandfathering provision for horses born between 1985 and 2007 and you are still able to register your horses for a fee of $200. Check the post NSBA Licensing Program post for more information on the stallion incentive fund.
Summary
The NSBA offers a great marketing tool for your horses as well as an opportunity for you to earn money as you show. We have intentionally kept the class entry fees for the dual approved classes as low as we can just to try and increase participation. For more information I encourage you to visit the NSBA web site.
