Don’t have anything to sell? Well enter anyway and if you win just let us know you would rather have the “pretty purple horse halter“. I picked it out myself. If the winner chooses the classified ads that halter just may show up on my mare.
We are certainly getting your horse, trailer or property seen. There is a counter on each ad. Go to the classifieds and check for yourself.
We also hear that lots of horses are selling. We just sold a nice pony for $2500. I hear of lots of interest in broke horses or well started prospects.
I think a good number of the “new” people who are using these horses are workers in the oilfields or in town and want a horse they can just get on and ride. They quite likely are boarding this horseĀ at one of the numerous new facilities that are popping up all around us which I think is one of the main reasons there is less interest in babies. If they are looking for a prospect they want him ready to go to the trainer or to be moved into their boarding barn for them to work with. Babies don’t fit in well in training barns.
This encourages breeders to keep their prospects longer or opens a new niche in the industry for folks who would like to raise youngsters and start their groundwork as baby horses have very different needs than adult horses. They are better off in big areas with some buddies around to encourage lots of play and exercise to build strength and keep them from being bored. We are finding that if we keep the babies we produce until they are yearlings or even two year olds we are having really good luck getting them to great homes. By then we know a lot about them and they have had a chance to grow up naturally in a herd in large pastures. To stand up to the mental and physical challanges that we throw at them today in today’s competitions, we need to give them every advantage we can as they are growing up. You have a lot of time, money and often love and dreams invested in a young prospect by the time he makes the show ring (or the trail). You want to enjoy some time there.
Once your heart has been captured by a horse it is pretty much impossible not to fall in love with them. Especially babies you have seen born or run on wobbly legs. And, of course, this way I get to spend a bit more time with each one. I am finding as I get older that I enjoy doing groundwork with a nice youngster as much as to go riding some days.

a comment about the post as well….a good insight into what is moving currently & what you think the trend is in the near future! appreciate your thoughts!!!
Video…sounds like a great idea! It would make it alot easier too see what a horse is like before I drive all over the place.
Yes I would use it. I believe it helps in selling and buying horses.
Video would be a great addition to your site.
yes videos do help for selling horses
I agree with some of the things you say in your article. Raising a foal is not a lot of hard work and is quite enjoyable. Many people are looking for horses to ride right away. However, if they have the chance to work with the weanlings, they would find out how fun and rewarding an experience it is. There is no feeling like it as when you make the ‘connection’ with the ‘student’ and they start to understand what you are asking. They are just like all children – their little faces are full of expression! In return, you keep learning as well. Each foal is different and they each have their own personality. They are great fun!
We don’t have a video recorder, so we would not use that service to sell. We just got high speed Internet so we would definitely be able to view the videos. Had we stayed with dial-up, we would not use the service. What you need to know from your customers is what percentage of visitors are on high speed versus dial-up.
We love your site and it has just getting better and better over the years! Thank you for all your hard work!
No I would probably not use it to post my own information, but I would definitely use it to view other peoples information and would grately appreciate it as it would be more helpful and entertaining to look at.
I would definitely use it to view horses for sale and if I was selling a horse I would use it then too.
Video would definately be an asset to those buying and selling. It will not only show movement, conformation and workability for the buyer but also allows the seller to focus potential buyers on their horse’s attributes. It would be an excellent tool, great idea.
Yes it would be a great tool.
hi iwould not use it as i don.t have a video cam nice idea anyway
If I had a video came I would use it to sell our foals. Some people buy foals from our pictures and we would rather they come out and see them or if we had a video cam then we could send the movement of the foal or horse we are trying to sell. Pictures are great but they don’t show the agility some of our foals have. We have foals out of our stallion This Smoke Stings who is a grandson of Color Me Smart. We watch these foals move and I would sure love to capture them on video to send to potential buyers so they could see how athletic and agile these foals are. Thanks.
