September 2008 Free Draw
This draw has been completed. Please don’t enter here but go to the current draw instead.
For the September draw we are giving away a copy of Robert Vavra’s book Equus, the creation of a horse. It is a used copy and the outside paper cover has a bit of damage but the book itself is in great shape. I have a copy of this book myself and really like it not only for the photos but also for the Author’s note on the photos and comments on the social behavior of horses. This month’s question is: “Did you or are you planning to take a lesson or clinic in 2008?
The winner of the August draw is I Harcourt. Thanks to everyone who entered. Please try again.
It is fall, froze here last nite, and time for all the fall horse sales. We have quite a line-up of sales this year. Even if you aren’t looking for a new horse the sales are always fun social events and it is interesting to see which ones are most valuable in the buyers’ eyes.

Yes, I attended a clinic in May, and will be going to another clinic in 2 weeks. The first was pretty basic – help with anything you needed help with, the second is a barrel clinic.
i went in a barrel clinic and it was great. my young horse got exposed to alot of stuff that weekend which was perfect for his confidence as well as mine with him.
Yes I have taken lessons early this Spring when the trainer was riding my filly. Going to ride at my trainers tomorrow! Hope to ride in Ken McNabb clinic also hoping to get him to do a clinic in BC in 2009.
Thankfully no frost here in Southern BC Interior. Hopefully none for at least another month. We rode well into November last fall with no frozen ground!!!
My mare is at a professional trainers at the moment and I will be working with her and the trainer soon. Am planning on taking a horsemanship clinic as soon as one is offered here in Moose Jaw.
Yes – have taken some clinics already this year and have another coming up.
Have always done lessons and/or clinics – you can never stop learning, and there is always more to learn!
nope, no time this year maybe in ’09
I take a lesson every week if possible, maybe a bit less in the winter.
I do weekly lessons and clinics whenever they are in the area. I find they are useful, especially when you show a lot.
Seen the clinics at the Mane Event in Red Deer this year, they were great. Will also be attending next year.
No, I just ride for pleasure so clinics, though a lot of fun and interesting to watch, are not something I participate in. I may take lessons in english, but it won’t be in 2008.
I took my daughter to 2 clinics this spring and hope to take
her to another this fall.
I plan on taking a reining clinic in the spring.
Took three clinics so far this year, two working cow clinics with differet trainers, and also a sapergia reining clinic. All three were excellent learning experiences, and were great fun! I agree that you can never stop learning, no matter if it is your first ride, or you are a coach yourself! “Those who think they know it all, are usually the ones who know the least”
i’ve taken quite a few lessons so far in 2008
No Clinics or Lessons this year, but have been riding my new gelding and getting to know him.
I haven’t had time to take clinics in the past few years but would like to find time to do them again.
Yes I took Dave Fraser penning clinic.
Yes, I took a clinic in 2008.
wont be taking any clinics this year, but will be looking to take in a couple next year!!! would like to take some of the alternative healing ones!!
Yes, took a clinic and weekly lessons.
I attended a Les Vogt horsemanship clinic in Carvel, AB in June. I came away with alot of information that has improved both my riding and my horses training.
not this year but hope to get my 3 daughters into something next year!
Nothing planned but if a interesting clinic is fairly close I would sure try to go.
Not this but looking forward to a few clinics next year.
Yes I am currently taking a Natural Horsemanship Program privately and will be attending a clinic being held end of this month for assessing equine behavior.
I took another Les Vogt Clinic in Cochrane this year and found that his clinics are pretty much the best i have ever attended. Les is very freindly, informative, and inspiring. He gives you the tools you need to advance to new levels. His methods worked for me. I have seen big results in my horses and found that it has encouraged me to push to new goals. Anyone interested in attending i would highly recommend. The one on one cow work with Les is the best part. he is right with you the whole step of the way, which forces you to do things properly.
Andrea
I took a Terry-Lee Sapergia clinic in the spring, it was great. I have know Terry since she was a kid, and she, like all the other members of her family, has an incredible knowledge of horses. She has a huge respect for them, and tries to help the rider work with the horse, not against it, to acheive the best results.
Terry is an avid competitor, a great trainer, an encouraging coach, and above all a very good friend.
Thanks Terry!
Yes I have taken 4 clinics this year. Two reining clinics and two clicker training clinics.
I took a clinic with Kevin Pole this summer in Barrhead. He was an excellent clinician and I came home with several new ideas to try that worked. I would definitely take another clinic with this gentleman.
Erin
Went to John Lyons symposium this summer, and hoping to hit a few clinics before the year is done!
yes, i already took one, a cutting clinic and id like to take a few more.
I attended a working cow horse/reining clinic this past summer.
went to a women and horses retreat in Empress, AB, enjoyed horsemanship clinics and beginner jumper classes. Always take clinics when available as one never stops learning!!
I am currently taking weekly jumping lessons with goals to compete. So far I’ve been in the lessons since May of this year and I’m jumping close to two feet high. Also, I am working with my gelding with hopes to get him going well over the jumps so I can take him to my lessons!
