How to Breed for a Filly

A New Zealand study on wild horses has revealed that breeding specifically for a filly or a colt may be more than just a 50-50 chance for horse breeders.

In a six-year long study funded by the Department of Conservation, researchers Elissa Cameron and Wayne Linklater found that it was the change in condition of the mare around the time of conception, as opposed to her actual condition, that better predicted the sex of the foal.

I was contacted a few weeks ago from someone in Mexico looking to purchase horses in Canada. They kept changing the dates on me to come and view horses due to them “missing their flight” Finally we had made arrangements for them to come and view them on Sunday morning. Continue Reading »

12 Horses Killed on Deerfoot

I read the news article in the Calgary Herald about the tragic accident and am having trouble understanding how Mr. desBarres can say he has no issue with how the animals were being transported when, in the same article, it says the driver, Gordon Trach has been charged with careless driving, failing to produce insurance, driving with no license plate on the trailer, operating the vehicle without the proper licence (and I would guess training to drive a large truck and trailer).

Wild Deuce hosted their 4th Annual Working Mountain Horse Competition & Select Sale this past weekend (September 26-28).  This is a weekend you will mark on your calendar year after year. The owners Chuck & Terri McKinney and Brenda Winder have gone out of their way to bring the best of the mountains to you on Terri’s family ranch.  The response has been shown in the numbers of the folks coming out to watch these amazing girls and their horses.  The weekend went from a two day event to three to fit in everything the girls want to teach and show the public.   The crowd has doubled each year, to a whopping 950 people attending this great one of kind event!
