2008 Western Horse Sale Results
We have received the results of the Western Horse Sale. Once again this year it was a very interesting sale with a nice variety of started and finished horses.
The Western Horse Sale, now in it’s thirteenth year, was held during the 2008 Canadian Supreme Show and Trade Fair at the Westerner Agriplex, Friday, Oct. 3rd, at 6:pm. Sixty four horses were presented to the buying public under the gavel of Dan Skeels of Ponoka, AB. Fifty four horses were sold for a total sales of $261,650.00.
The high selling horse of the sale was lot #40, a talented 2001 chestnut mare, (Sire: Tangys Classy Peppy, Dam: High Brows Su), “Tangy Little Su”, consigned by Brian Schultz and Donna Williamson of Armstrong, BC., and brought $23,000 from Marilyn Teed of Fort St. John, BC.
Our second high selling horse (and high selling two year old) was lot #42, a handsome sorrel stallion, (Sire: Chics In The Male, Dam: Majorita Peppy), “SG Just Male De Chex”, consigned by Sunglade Ranch, (Arnie Hein and Lynn Hoff), of Sundre, AB. He brought $12, 000 from Kent Butterfield of Erskine, AB.
The second high selling two year old was lot #54, an outstanding chestnut gelding (Sire: My Own League, Dam: Missy Bar Freckles), “My Own Freckles”, consigned by Jantree Quarter Horses, (Gary and Lynn Tressider) of Cochrane, AB. He brought $10,250.00 from Farrah Roberts of Stony Plain AB.
There were only three 3yr. olds in the sale, the high selling one being lot # 41, a talented bay mare (Sire: Tuf Country Chex, Dam: Docs Baronita), “Tuf Country Queen”, consigned by Duane Gervais of Airdrie, AB. She brought $6,500 from Maureen Dalton of Dewinton, AB.
The high selling yearling was lot #03, a very elegant bay mare, (Sire: Chic Please, Dam: Dualetta Olena), “Cee Chicadee”, consigned by Shauna Oseen of High River AB. She brought $7,200 from Dave Freeland of Edmonton, AB.
The second high selling yearling was lot # 34, a stylish chestnut stallion, (Sire: No Guns In The Bar, Dam: Dee Playgun), “Jae Bars Chrome”, consigned by Pekisko Ranch, Red Deer, AB. He brought $5,300.00 from Joe Goetz of Bluffton, AB.
Of the riding horses, our high seller “Tangy Little Sue” was at the top of the list at $23,000, and our next high selling riding horse was lot #66, a red dun stallion (Sire: Classy Little Lena, Dam: Highbrow O Lena), “Lenas Smart One”, consigned by Pekisko Ranch (Kevin Baumann) of Red Deer, AB, and sold for $11,000.00, to M.L. Cuming of Crossfield, AB.
Sale Results:
17 yearling’s brought $50,800 top five average was $5,540.00
21 two year olds brought $96,750, top five average was $9,530
03 three year olds brought $14,100, average price was 4,700
11 riding horses four years and older brought $90,200, top five average was 18,040
02 broodmares brought $9,800.
The Western Horse Sale would like to thank all the people that participated in the sale, to those helping set up, to the consignors for putting their best horses in the sale, and all the buyers for attending and making a purchase. The quality of horses and the sale averages were up from last year, making the Western Horse Sale the best venue to purchase quality young prospects, seasoned working horses, and quality breeding stock in Canada! A special thanks to the Canadian Supreme committee for hosting the Western Horse Sale at the Supreme Show, and to our bulk consignors, “Jantree Quarter Horses” of Cochrane, AB. and to “Pekisko Ranch” of Red Deer for their quality consignments.

Once again I would like to thank Bill and Elaine for the excellent job that was done hosting the Western Horse Sale again this year. The hours that these people commit to producing the best sale in Western Canada should not go un-noticed . This sale draws people from all over Western Canada and is one of the biggest highlights during the week of the Supreme. So for every one of the avid horse lovers out there , I would just like to remind you that the next time that you run into Bill or Elaine please take the time to thank them for all that they have done for the Horse Industry. I know that we sure appreciate them and look forward to next years sale which will hopefully be bigger and better.
