Horse Rescue

I received an inquiry today that reads:

“I am looking to rescue a couple of horses from the feedlot buyers.  What type of auction do I need to go to?  I am looking for young horses to ride, training is not important”.

I would suppose that knowing the location of the person making the request would help us make suggestions as I doubt one would have to travel too far to find a couple of horses that need rescuing. Maybe some folks reading this will have some good ideas? I would think most of them end up in the local auction sales? Perhaps there are feedlots that let you go through and pick out ones to buy? Sounds like this is an opportunity for a few youngsters to find a good home. There is a “comment” link below where you can discuss your suggestions.

And just 2 days ago I got the following request in an email:

We are a new rescue and we are hoping you could post our ideas.  Attached is a hay drive poster and a Wish List poster.  We currently have 12 rescue horses in our care.

I am including the posters included with the request for hay donations and their wishlist. Maybe some of the folks you buy presents for would just as soon know they are helping some horses as have another shirt/sweater/blender they really don’t need or want. Maybe giving gifts that somehow improve life for other people or animals would make Christmas more meaningful for us all.

We lost a dear friend this weekend in a plane crash. I was lucky enough to ride with Herluf in that plane several times. He was one of the kindest, nicest people I have ever known and generous in sharing his plane & time with folks like myself who just love to see the world from “up there”. Along with the pain from a tooth that is going to get a root canal tomorrow, my feelings of loss are making it hard to concentrate on work. I found a couple of interesting looking links but didn’t get time to check them out.

There are always young horses going in the Innisfail auction everytime I have been there. A lot of them have little or no handling and end up going to the meat buyers. Some are even registered stock. Next sale is July 8, Thursday evening at 6:00 p.m.

Also Lynn, I am unable to find anything on the Didsbury Light Horse show coming up.

    Thanks
