Cas

We have another story of a horse who helped make someone’s dreams come true.

I bought Dee Cas Jet or “Cas” as a very green inexperienced rider who had just gone through a horrific experience with a very green gelding. I loved horses so much but was terrified to ride them at anything faster than a walk now. This was a problem as I had big dreams of being able to someday compete in working cowhorse, which is an incredibly aggressive and speedy sport.

Cas was a beautiful liver chestnut mare and she had the kindest eye…however she also had a big personality. This mare taught me how to ride, she gave me confidence and when I had that she would challenge me to make sure I had really got it after all. With Cas I started loping again and soon after we couldn’t go fast enough. We had such a strong bond; I felt that there was nothing I couldn’t trust her to do with me. In time she got me started on cows and then the day came when I had out grown her. However she loved to have a job and to be treated like the princess she was. I had a difficult decision to make and decided that it was time to share this special mare with someone else who needed her.

That was when I met a wonderful lady named Velma who also had a scare and needed to build her confidence back up. Cas was so gentle and caring with her and within minutes the two were fast friends. So the decision was made and Cas went on to a new home.

I have never forgotten Cas because of her I was able to start riding a four year old cowhorse and to start competing in cowhorse as well. She taught me so much and gave me the skills and confidence to go on to ride all sorts of three and four year old futurity horses. Without her none of these dreams ever would have come true.

Sadly Cas passed away this last May while foaling. I was devastated by this loss, but also so grateful to Velma in that I knew she loved that mare as much as I did and was with her until the bitter end. Cas was never a big money earner or a producer of world class colts, but the gift she gave me was priceless. She allowed me to achieve the skills I needed to achieve my dreams. She was an amazing mare and will never be forgotten.
