The big event is at Westerner Park in Red Deer, AB again this year. The dates are April 24 – 26th. If you are interested in horses come join the fun and take advantage of all the learning opportunities.
We are including some information about this year’s clinicians just to get you in the mood.

Jay Hayes – Jumping
Two-time Canadian Olympian, Jay Hayes has been a member of the Canadian equestrian team since 1985 and has represented Canada at several major events, including the 1992 Olympic Games. In 1996, Hayes won the Tropicana Grand Prix for the third year in a row aboard Raven, a feat never before accomplished in Canadian show jumping history. After winning the first 2000 Olympic Selection Trial at Spruce Meadows, Jay led the standings from start to finish, resulting in a berth to the Sydney Olympics. Most recently Jay won the National Final of the 2008 Kubota Cup Series, a seven cities coast-to-coast event. As well as representing Canada in international competition, Jay is involved in the organization of the sport and was President of the highly successful Collingwood Horse Show which ran for more than 20 years. He and his family continue to organize and manage several horse shows each year.

Al Dunning – Reining & Horsemanship
Arizona horseman, Al Dunning has been riding since he was a youngster, he has ridden with such mentors as Jim Paul, John Hoyt and Don Dodge. Al and his students have won 32 World and Reserve World Titles and AQHA World Championships in Reining, Cutting, Working Cow Horse and Western Riding. Al has been a finalist at the NRCHA World’s Greatest Horseman Contest, a National Reined Cow Horse Open Bridle Champion, and a finalist or semi-finalist at every NCHA major event. He was AQHA Professional Horseman of the Year in 1996, as well as an AQHA judge for the past 27 years. Al has authored articles featured in: Quarter Horse Journal, Western Horseman, Performance Horse, Horse and Rider Magazine, Horseman, Western Outfitter, Eastern/Western Journal, and many more.

Mette Rosencrantz – Dressage
Mette Rosencrantz is from Sweden where she was twice a member of the Swedish National Dressage Team. She was the youngest rider ever allowed to enter Stromsolm, Sweden’s prestigious school for instructors, and eventually became the head dressage instructor there in 1980. Mette won the $25,000 Grand Prix Invitational in Las Vegas in 2007, one of only six riders in the US invited to compete in this. Mette’s teaching skills are highly sought-after, she has been a clinician for the California Dressage Society Amateur clinics and also does clinics throughout the US.

Jonathan Field – Horsemanship
Jonathan’s love of horses began early, and he can’t remember when they weren’t part of his life. His earliest memories are of competing in horse shows, both English and Western. as a young man he cowboyed for the Quilchena Cattle Company. Jonathan has been privileged to study under some great horsemen, including Ronnie Willis, Ray Hunt and World Reining Champion, Craig Johnson. His greatest mentor, however, is Pat Parelli. It was Pat who impressed upon Jonathan the fundamental truth about horsemanship: the dignity of the horse must always come first. A natural presenter, Jonathan has honed his skills as a clinician. Presented with the 2005 Horse Council of B.C.’s New Innovative Business/Service Award, Jonathan has proven himself a gifted teacher.

Dana Hokana – Western Pleasure & Horsemanship
Dana Hokana is one of the top female trainers in the Quarter Horse industry. She has trained multiple Western Pleasure circuit champions as well as futurity winners and horses to top ten placings in Western Pleasure at both the All American Quarter Horse Congress and AQHA World Championship shows. Riding her stallion, Invested Dimension, she captured an AQHA Reserve World Championship in Senior Western Pleasure. Dana has also released her own video series entitled, The Winning Strides Series, which is designed to educate horse owners and riders from the basics of horse handling and horsemanship, to competing at high levels in the show arena. Skilled at teaching in a relaxed, non-intimidating way she carries these traits over to her video series. Dana is a member of AQHA, NSBA, the Pacific Coast QH Association as well as a member of the AQHA Professional Horsemen’s Association.

Hardy Zantke – Driving
Hardy Zantke learned to drive horses as a youngster with draft-teams at his grandfather’s drayage company in East Germany. He later had a formal riding education in the West German army. After immigrating to the U.S. with his wife Jutta and settling in Torrance, CA they became one of the top competitors in Combined Driving in the USA in the 80′s and 90′s with their pairs of 17 hand bay Holsteiner geldings. They competed regularly throughout the entire U.S. and Canada and were first alternate of the U.S. team at the 1993 World Pair Driving Championship. They brought up two pairs from importing them as three year olds to being longlisted with the USET. They also competed with a four-in-hand and reached the USET List of Developing Drivers with the team. They retired from active competition in the fall of 2005. Hardy is a licensed FEI International Driving Judge and actively judges here and abroad. He is a Director of the American Driving Society (ADS) and serves on various committees of USEF and ADS. He has served as Chef d’Equipe since 1996 for thirteen US Teams which brought home five medals. Hardy writes for various driving magazines and is published in five countries. He received the ADS Presidents Award for his contributions to driving
GiGi Bailey – HUS & Equitation
GiGi Bailey has been showing horses for over 25 years and is a recognized judge with the AQHA, NSBA and APHA, She has trained and exhibited numerous AQHA World Champions in Hunter Under Saddle, Hunter Hack and Pleasure Driving. Her students are consistently in the top placings at the AQHYA World Show, the All American Quarter Horse Congress and most major shows in the country. GiGi lives in DePere, WI with her husband Bob Rahmlow. Together they own the stallion Pass The Asset who stands in Kentucky. GiGi and Bob raise young prospects by “Floyd”.

Bobby Richards – TWHBEA & Gaited Horses
Bobby Richards has been hooked on horses since he was a child, all through his younger years he rode and showed halter horses under the guidance of his father Bob Richards Sr. Bobby has 30 plus world titles and 30 plus reserve world titles in The Celebration and Futurities. He is also an international title winner in weanling, yearling and “in-hand” competitions. Bobby has conducted halter and gait training clinics all across the USA & Canada. In addition, he is a licensed judge with the National Horse Show Commission and has conducted seminars in Germany for the European members of the Tennessee Walking Horse Breeders and Exhibitors Association.

Robyn Hood – TTEAM/TTouch
Robyn Hood is one of the leading clinicians teaching TTEAM & TTouch, developed by her sister Linda Tellington-Jones. She travels throughout the US, Canada, Europe, South Africa & Australia teaching an alternative way of dealing with animals. TTEAM offers a training approach that encourages optimal performance and health, and presents solutions to common behavioural and physical problems. Robyn has been involved with Icelandic Horses for many years and also helped found the Canadian Icelandic Horse Federation in 1979.

Gary Leffew – Bull Riding
Gary Leffew is known as the rodeo guru of positive thinking (psycho-cybernetics). He earned the first of his seven National Finals Rodeo appearances in 1966, and use of his positive-thinking program and the visualization techniques he developed earned him World and NFR aggregate titles. Today with the help of his sons, Judd and Brett, Gary is teaching his techniques to a new generations of bull riders – programming them to be champions through his use of visualization, video feedback, good techniques and strength of the mind.

Doug Mills
Three-time Mane Event Trainer’s Challenge Champion, Doug Mills has built his training skills and riding abilities over a lifetime of horsemanship. Born and raised on a working cattle ranch in Price, Utah, offered Doug a lifestyle that gave him the opportunity to observe horses and their instincts in their natural environment. This is the key to Doug’s ability to read and communicate with horses. Doug credits many clinicians and trainers for the success of his program, but the horse is still his most influential teacher. Doug has a slew of success stories after more than a decade of teaching horses and riders in workshops and one-on-one sessions in Canada, the United States, and Europe. These include futurity wins and international and national championships. In 2005 Doug and his students have achieved 46 championships, 68 reserves, and nine gold medals in Reining, Working Cow Horse, Rodeo, Western pleasure, Western riding, Trail, Showmanship, Hunter Under Saddle, Jumping, and Dressage.

Patrick Hooks
Patrick Hooks has presented clinics and expos since the 80’s. He is noted for his down to earth cowboy demeanor and common sense approach about the horse, cattle, ranching, dogs, or roping. Pat is the author of the DVD and booklet series “ Fix It Up For the Horse” and “101 Ranch Horse Tips”, as well as a columnist for several magazine and newspaper publications in the USA and abroad. His latest project is a roping series for beginners presently running monthly in AQHA’s America’s Horse magazine. Pat has been a regular guest on RFDTV’s program Horsecity.com segment “ In the Saddle” and on the webcast at www.Nickernetwork.com on the cowboy TV channel.

Mel Hyland
Mel Hyland is a Horsemanship Teacher, 2 Time World and 5 Time Canadian Champion Bronc Rider, inducted into 4 Halls of Fame. Mel has been involved in the horse business since retiring from the the rodeo arena in 1984. He has studied with some great horsemen, started numerous colts, and showed horses in Pleasure and Cutting. Mel is the 2008 Champion in the Peace River Cutting Association Open Ranch class. A widely-respected horseman and clinician, Mel’s focus remains on helping people learn from his experience and overall, helping others achieve better horsemanship.

I am interested to see the trainers challenge
I have been to the Mane Event before and I loved the Trainers Challenge. I think J. Fields was my favorite clinic.
