Heading Out

So we had to get the trailer out of the quonset and get it loaded up with all the things I think I have to take with me on my little journeys.  Also had to find a few extra hours to get my work caught up ahead. Had it planned out to the hour when I headed out to catch Keeper and load her in the trailer.

She was no where to be seen. I was quite alarmed about where she and her adoring fellows could be when I noticed we had not shut the gate to the mares’ pasture when we brought the mares home to lock them up in a paddock in preparation for the big day. Keeper and the boys were at the very farthest corner of the quarter section.

It was all good as I had just been on Google Maps preparing a driving plan when I noticed that Okotoks is straight south of Calgary. Every Google driving route I tried suggested I drive right through Calgary. I’m not ready to drive through Calgary with the horse trailer all by myself. We think the traffic is bad enough out here. A walk was what I needed.

While I was busy trying to get more confident about driving the truck and trailer by myself  on my little walk, Dave got out an old fashioned map and when I returned pointed out that there were roads that one could take to get south of Calgary that didn’t mean driving right through the middle of the city. Brilliant man. Truth is I had even been on most of them before.

The drive – it went without a hitch.

Randy and Rosina of Big Rock Walker Ranch greeted me and made me feel really comfortable as they prepared a really nice level place for me to park my trailer and showed me the individual covered pen with a tub feeder with salt in it, a waterer, and a grain bucket already installed. Randy showed me the facilities and told me to make myself at home. That if I needed anything to just call. I met Rosina and she assured me I had made the right choice in a trainer to help me overcome my fears and teach me how to better communicate with my horse.

Randy said he didn’t realize anyone was coming Wed night which surprised me as I thought lots of folks would show up the night before.  Oh well, I gave Keeper a chance to check out the arena, did a little computer work and I’m off to bed.
