Advertising Opportunity

I’m not quite sure why some folks who would like to get some extra exposure for their sale, event or whatever don’t grab up those premium ad spots on the left side of Northernhorse.com just under the “What’s New” section. With well over 25,000 different computers visiting Northernhorse.com every week, and almost all those visitors interested in horses, horse products and horse events, it is a tremendous opportunity to get some effective and cheap advertising. The cost is only $50/week if you provide the image. Don’t have a suitable banner? We can design an image for you at a reasonable cost  – you may even be able to reuse it in the future.

I’m thinking that most folks don’t even really realize that those excellent advertising opportunities are even available.  They are. Just email service@northernhorse.com if you would like more info or if you would like to get one of those highly visible spots working for you.

Twitter – Something to Consider?

In our constant search of ways to give our clients an edge on the competition, Twitter has come to our attention. On a previous blog I offered to do a tutorial about Twitter. Well, it seems that I don’t need to as I have found an excellent tutorial is already available. Just check out http://business.twitter.com/twitter101 if you think you might want to try something new that doesn’t have a big, long learning curve. I know lots of horsepeople don’t want to spend time on computers but if you are running a business and you are finding times tougher than usual, maybe being one of the first users in your field (an “early adopter”) to a new technology may give you a little edge in your marketing. And, quite often these kind of things work best for the early adopters.

This is probably a great thing to plan for fall/winter. I certainly wouldn’t give up these warm days when you can be outside doing something with your horse. I’m just getting you used to the idea.

Very Athletic Horse

I’m not a big fan of bull fighting but the horse in this video is quite an athlete.

State of US Horse Industry

I came upon an interesting article with some statistics about the State of the Horse Industry in the U.S. from Steve Day’s (the president of Dover Saddlery) presentation at the 2008 International Kentucky Equine Summit. The writer goes on to make suggestions on how we could help potential horse owners overcome some of their misconceptions about their opportunities to enjoy horses.

It seems the 2 things that are in the forefront preventing people pursuing their interest in riding and horses are:

  1. They did not believe that there were any facilities close to them – I am always surprised at how many horse businesses manage to remain hidden even from us horsepeople.
  2. They perceived riding to be too expensive.

2009 Summer Photo Contest

2009SummerPhotoContest

Our 2009 Summertime Photo Contest is Over. We have picked a winner. Please don’t enter or vote on this one. Check for a current one.

Winner is Number 677 Shy Rider by Nola Shannon.

Summertime & the living is easy. Old song, most of you have probably never heard it. And, although we are all concerned about the hay situation with these long warm days and not enough moisture, we certainly have to admit that the riding has never been better. Hardly any mosquitoes and no mud or bogs. You can cross our big slough right now without getting your horse’s feet wet.

So get out there and ride or do whatever it is that you like to do with your horses. I know folks who just like to hang out with their horses and never get on their backs. Now is the time. Continue Reading »

Skinning Pets for Fur?

This story sounds too horrible to be true. If you are the sort who has trouble getting horror stories out of their minds you might want to pass this one up. On the other hand if no one is made aware of this no one can help encourage them to incorporate some animal  and human rights.
