State of US Horse Industry

I came upon an interesting article with some statistics about the State of the Horse Industry in the U.S. from Steve Day’s (the president of Dover Saddlery) presentation at the 2008 International Kentucky Equine Summit. The writer goes on to make suggestions on how we could help potential horse owners overcome some of their misconceptions about their opportunities to enjoy horses.

It seems the 2 things that are in the forefront preventing people pursuing their interest in riding and horses are:

  1. They did not believe that there were any facilities close to them – I am always surprised at how many horse businesses manage to remain hidden even from us horsepeople.
  2. They perceived riding to be too expensive.
