2009WildDeuceSaleWild Deuce was excited hosting their 5th Annual Working Mountain Horse Competition and Sale. Sept. 25 – 27, 2009. Owners Brenda Winder and Terri and Chuck McKinney brought the best of their horses from their Camp, in the Foothills of the Rockies, 85 km. SW of Rocky Mountain House – along with Select Consignors. They offered their best of the best, versatile and capable of going anywhere from a mountain trail to the show ring.

High selling horse was Lot 9, Peso, consigned by Wild Deuce who sold at $8,600.

Rounding out the top 5 were:
Lot 8 – MM Tuff Order Zan $8,500 consigned by Wild Deuce
Lot 20 – Doc Van Ashlar $7,600 consigned by JW Quarter Horses
Lot 14 – Macs T Zone $6,300 Consigned by Kam MacGregor
Lot 13 – Hooks Dust Rose $5,700 Consigned by Wild Deuce

Top 5 Average was an impressive $7,160. Overall average for 16 horses sold was $4,950. Average horse price sales are climbing higher each year. Spectators numbered around 1100, many this time from Calgary and Cochrane areas, and other parts of the province. Friday launched with an Open Competition, where riders compete for 1st prize money of $500, placing to 4th. This competition is open to the public so they can try their horses on the course designed by Wild Deuce (and the same course the consignors compete on.) Friday afternoon saw six youth compete on a modified course sponsored by U.F.A.

Safety is a priority and each rider was taken through the course, with sale owners Brenda or Terri by their side.

Friday evening brought the day to an end with a Bar-B-Que sponsored by Curty’s Oilfield in memory of a friend and fellow competitor Terry Suchy.

Saturday saw Consigned Horses and the Wild Deuce Horses compete on the course, which showcases the opportunity to see how the horses for sale perform when challenged with a variety of challenging obstacles. A good crowd of spectators gathered at the course centre, plus enjoying the variety of vendors participating in the Backcountry Tradeshow and a Silent Auction with the proceeds going to S.T.A.R.S.

S.T.A.R.’s was chosen as the charity of choice, in the chance of someone being hurt in the mountains, S.T.A.R.’s would be the first responders and the quickest way to medical help. In the past 3 years, over $10,000 has been donated to S.T.A.R.’s. The majority of the spectators came to take in the full 3 days of excitement and activity and among those over half chose to bring out the campers and stay for the weekend.

Catering is supplied by “Food with Flair”, generously offering Pancake Breakfasts and a Roast Beef dinner.
