Alberta RCMP have laid charges in one of a series of wild horse killings near Sundre.

Jason Nixon, 29, Earl Anderson, 40 and a 13 year old boy have been charged so far with at least one more charge pending. They will appear in court March 1st in Didsbury, AB.

Mustard Seed, a well known Calgary social agency, has confirmed in a statement that the two men are associated with its Mountain Aire Lodge near Sundre.

There has been an ongoing investigation for the past 3 years into the case. Hopefully more charges will be laid soon in the other horse killings.

“This has been ongoing for a long, long time,” said spokesman for WHOAS,  Bob Henderson.

“Since our group has been formed, there has been over 30 killings or around 30 killings that we know about, and it’s also gone on long before that. So whether they’ve caught everybody, I don’t think so, but at least there’s some progress being made,” he said.

Nixon has also been charged with assault, uttering threats, and obstructing a Fish and Wildlife officer who was investigating the incident.

That is great news, I am glad they caught them and hope they get a good judge who will give them the punishment they deserve!

  2. Evan. L says:

hope they get put away I can’t believe the Mustard seed is paying for their legal fees just because they worked for them I’m mean they shot an animal who has no way to defend its self from a gun what does it make these people feel big because they can shoot something that can’t fight back!! I hope for the sake of the few Wild horses we have left that Mister Harper passes a law prohibiting the harassment of these amazing creatures and the the Mustard seed I hope they know what their doing because they have now joined these monsters even though they didn’t do the shooting they will be treated like the real criminals

I have photographed the wild horses in this area many times and often ride out of the Ya Ha Tinda Ranch camp, and have frequently bought supplies from the Mountain Aire Lodge but I will now be boycotting this establishment from now on. I hope these criminals get the harsh punishment they deserve, and get jailed for many years, and that this will deter others from harming these beautiful animals – they are part of our heritage and as such I feel the government should be doing more to protect them. Thank you to the Fish and Wildlife and RCMP for persisting in their investigations.

I will never send money to the mustard seed again,Unfortunately the homeless will now suffer, for 2 men and & child,I hope they get everything they deserve..To harm a animal of any nature, shows how calious that person is. Shame on The Mustard Seed for helping with leagal fees for those criminals.

  5. Jaye says:

I just want to say that the Mustard Seed should not be blamed for this. They are not responsible for employee’s actions outside of work. I am horrified that someone would intentionally harm these beautiful creations of God. However, I applaud the Mustard Seed for looking after their employees. Unless our legal system has changed, everyone is innocent until PROVEN guilty. Many people are already acting as if these people are guilty, because of what has been reported in the news. However, they are legally considered innocent until the conclusion of their trials, at which point they may be proven to be guilty and then be punished for it. It is the Mustard Seed’s choice to help them, as they have been helping people for 25 years. EVERYONE deserves a fair trial and the Mustard Seed is only upholding the value of a fair trial for everyone that our country holds so dear.

Where are the update on these charges????

Today is the day founder of the Calgary Mustard Seed, Pat Nixon resigned. Think these charges against his son have anything to do with it? ha!

I have found this info on the Daisy Foundation website for anyone interested:

    Monday-Friday, April 4-8, 2011
Jason Nixon, Earl Anderson & Gary Cape, are scheduled for trial on charges of killing cattle (a pregnant mare in this case). Additional charges of careless use of firearms, discharging a firearm, unauthorized hunting, obstructing justice, possession of wildlife, assault and uttering threats will also be addressed.

What do you think of all the charges against these innocent people being dropped?

Will the RCMP and Crown Prosecutor be on trial next for a wreckless abuse of power?

How about David Goertz and his desire for the $25,000 reward?

This is Canada! We are supposed to believe in INNOCENT until Proven Guilty.

It is a very sad day when such enthusiasm is misplaced.

    Appologies are due.

  8. Cass says:

They are not guilty how does that make all of you nay Sayers feel? People should learn not to comment until they no the truth this kind of attitude is how these innocent peoples lives were ruined. Assholes all of you.

  9. Cass says:

And to the moderators why has the information here not been updated and the truth been told. Don’t you think enough damage has been done? These poor people have lost everything. Do some good and replace this ignorant crap with the truth.

is it time to eat some crow?

  11. Northernhorse says:

Perhaps you would send me links to the news copies you most think express the truth about this and we will publish them.

  12. Walking Buffalo says:

    Northernhorse,

I can’t imagine that you are not aware of the recent media reports as well as the Crown Prosecutors own words explaining why the charges were dropped. Lets not forget that these charges were based on the lies of David Goertz and his desire for the $25,000 reward offered through WHOAS. Appologies AND MORE are in order. This should not have to be coerced.

Whoas doesn’t deserve any help, but here you go.

  13. Dave says:

The horse was not even shot. There were no bullet holes or evidence of any kind that a gun was even used. The Crown and it’s minions acted like a bunch of Gestapo.

I am sick of reading about crap like this. Yes someone should go to jail and it isnt the poor shmucks who were charged.

  14. Northernhorse says:

It seems to me that the fellow who lied and falsely blamed this guy is the one who should be apologizing and should be responsible for the losses of the people falsely accused. Actually I would be interested to hear if there is any repercussions for doing something like this. There is nothing illegal with offering a reward but there is surely something wrong with telling lies that cause this much harm to other people.

  15. Northernhorse says:

The person who caused the harm is the person who lied and blamed them wrongly. Not the people who are trying to stop whomever it was that was actually doing this and other cruel acts to the wild horses.
