The prestigious 2009 World Championship Sale managed by Professional Auction Service, Inc., was held in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on November 16, 2009. The Canadian Quarter Horse Association (CQHA) is pleased to recognize Rinzema Quarter Horses of Keene, Ontario, who bred and consigned one of the highest selling horses in the sale. The auction service’s official results report the 2010 total sale prices at $1,492,200, averaging $5,311 on 281 lots sold, up 10% over the 2008 average. (All prices are quoted in US currency).

Dunit On The Range, consigned by Bill Rinzema, topped the performance horse section at $41,500 and was purchased by Gail Beaver Torsell of Centre Hall, PA. The yearling red roan stallion is sired by Open Range and out of Emerald Selection, by Selection So Simple. Emerald Selection is a 2001 red dun mare who earned 70 AQHA Western Pleasure points.

Bill Rinzema said, “We established Rinzema Quarter Horses in 1985, where we worked out of a facility in Mount Albert for two years. In 1987, I was approached to take over the training and management of Storm King Ranch. While under our supervision, Storm King Ranch became one of the most successful Quarter Horse operations in Canada. During that time, I was responsible for purchasing Principle Investment, who went on to win the 1989 All American Quarter Horse Congress two-year-old snaffle bit and was the high money earning NSBA two-year-old. After four successful years running Storm King Ranch, we re-established Rinzema Quarter Horses in 1991, in our current location (at Keene, Ontario). The following year, Dave Hickey (of Millbrook, Ontario) and I put Baywood Quarter Horses together, which was a syndicate that purchased the terrific young stallion An Awesome Mister. In 1992, this stallion went on to win the Junior Western Pleasure at the All American Quarter Horse Congress and also won the Western Pleasure Maturity. An Awesome Mister also placed third in Western Pleasure, at the AQHA World Championship Show, that year.”

A very successful breeding program was developed around An Awesome Mister, catapulting him on to all the AQHA Leading Sires lists in performance and halter. His offspring literally dominated many of the major futurity programs. In addition his get were often the high sellers at the Congress and World Show sales. An Awesome Mister was sold at the 1999 AQHA World Show Sale for a record $227,000.00,” said Rinzema.

Currently, Rinzema has in excess of $275,000 in pleasure futurity lifetime earnings. In 2009, he showed reining horses consistently for the first time, and was the Reining Canada Champion Rookie Professional and Reserve Champion Rookie Profession. Rinzema is actively engaged in training futurity pleasure and reining horses, coaching youth and amateurs, riding lessons, auction sale preparation and buying and selling of higher quality show horses and prospects. Bill and his wife Tracy have two adult children, Kristy and Lucas.

Rinzema added, “We specialize in training and showing for Reining, Western Pleasure Futurities, Hunter Under Saddle and Longe Line at the AQHA Shows and at the NSBA level. We build a strong foundation so your horse can perform with longevity in mind. We also train and show horses for Open, Amateur and Youth at the AQHA Shows in Halter, Showmanship, Western Pleasure, Reining, Hunter Under Saddle, Horsemanship, Equitation, Trail, Western Riding and Reining.“

Rinzema Quarter Horses has consistently bred and consigned, or acted as sellers’ agents, of numerous high selling horses at prestigious sales over the years. He said, “We topped the yearling part of the World Sale six times out of the last ten years.” The CQHA is pleased to feature this successful Canadian breeder who has achieved his goals of marketing Canadian-bred Quarter Horses at world class levels.

The mandate of the CQHA, a national affiliate of the AQHA, is to address issues of concern to Canadian owners of American Quarter Horses; to be a communications vehicle for and with Canadian owners of American Quarter Horses; and to promote and market, both globally and within Canada, Canadian-bred and/or Canadian-owned American Quarter Horses.
