The Krymsun Kruzer, 2009 AQHA Open World Show Superhorse

The prestigious 2009 AQHA World Championship Show was held November 6-21, 2009 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. A total of 2,102 registered Quarter Horses competed for a total purse of $2,702,893 comprised of entry fees, added money and the value of awards. There were 2,036 Open entries (409 in Halter and 1627 in Performance classes) and 1,428 Amateur entries (319 in Halter and 1,109 in Performance classes). International representation came from Brazil, Canada (six provinces), France, Germany, Sweden and the United Kingdom, in addition to U.S. representation from 46 states.

The Canadian Quarter Horse Association (CQHA) is very proud to recognize Bernard G. More of Shawville, Quebec, breeder of The Krymsun Kruzer.

The Krymsun Kruzer won the 2009 Featherlite Superhorse title by a landslide (54 contenders) earning 48.5 points in seven classes: a world championship in Junior Working Hunter Under Saddle, a reserve Championship in Junior Hunter Hack, third place in Junior Pleasure Driving, fourth in Junior Hunter Under Saddle, fifth in Performance Halter Stallions, and special recognition as the Most Valuable Horse in the English category, earning a cheque for $5,000 and a $25,000 Featherlite gift certificate. The talented 2004 bay stallion is sired by One Hot Krymsun, (three time AQHA World Champion in Western Pleasure) and out of Pleasure N Passion, both Canadian-bred horses themselves.

Bernard More said, “I have been trying to breed this horse for twenty-five years. We have had wonderful luck being involved with many World Sale top sellers, Potentials Zipalark, The Awesome Zone, An Awesome Mister, and many Ontario Breeders Futurity Champions, but to make a contribution to the breed was always our goal. We raised the The Krymsun Kruzer’s dam Pleasure N Passion, by An Awesome Mister, out of two time World Champion, Miss Docs Melody. As a yearling, I assessed him for about a month or so in the round pen and it seemed every time I worked him he would impress me more. I had a very strong desire to see this horse end up in the right hands. And so I decided rather than take him to a sale as a yearling, to invite my close friend of many years, Bill Rinzema (Rinzema Quarter Horses of Keene, ON) to become a partner.

Bill was very happy to come aboard, and began riding the horse in January. After three months or so, we were pretty excited about his prospects and decided to take him to Florida for training and then on to the Tom Powers Futurity, where Gerri-Leigh Pratt decided to own him. For a breeder to find the right person, to take their product to the highest level, is a wonderful bit of luck, and exactly what we had hoped for. Bill’s family and mine always had a huge soft spot for Kruzer’s granddam, Miss Doc Melody, and are thrilled to see her blood passed on to future generations of Quarter Horses.”

“My wife, Norma, got me involved in horses, and things just took off,” said More, who owns a retail electrical business in Shawville. “I have a daughter, Kelly, 19, who like her Mom prefers to ditch ride, and a fifteen-year-old daughter Kelly, who rides Western Pleasure, does Showmanship, and as of this year, will make Hunter Under Saddle part of her repertoire.”

Gerri-Leigh Pratt of Winston Salem, North Carolina said, “I found The Krymsun Kruzer at the Tom Powers Futurity as a two-year-old, and I just had to have him. He’s a wonderful horse and majorly talented and good minded. I feel so fortunate to be part of this horse’s life and career. I’ve had some very fabulous horses in my life, but I’m not so sure I’ve had one this nice. He’s going home to stand with Mike Hay (of Pinnacle, North Carolina) for the 2010 breeding season. I’ll get to go and love on him and be part of his life.”

The CQHA is pleased to feature this successful Canadian breeder who has achieved his goals of marketing Canadian-bred Quarter orses, one of which has reached the highest pinnacle of success in the Quarter Horse world.

The mandate of the CQHA, a national affiliate of the AQHA, is to address issues of concern to Canadian owners of American Quarter Horses; to be a communications vehicle for and with Canadian owners of American Quarter Horses;
