August 2010 Free Draw
Don’t enter this draw as it is over. There is probably a new draw that you should enter instead or if not there soon will be. This draw is over. The winner was #82 Jennifer. Thanks for all who entered.
Jonathan Field Horsemanship gave us a copy of their Special Session Series DVD’s called “Triple Play” – Three Horses – Three Sessions – Three Different Levels. We are going to give you a chance to win this DVD for your own collection. All you have to do to enter is click on the “comments” link below and tell us what you are doing with your horse this summer.
This DVD is in three sections:
Chapter 1: One Lucky Foal
Watch as Jonathan plays for the first time with a very special foal who has defied the odds of survival. Hear this amazing story and enjoy imagining the possibilities of her future.
Chapter 2: Stitch
Using a very green, young horse Jonathan shows you how you would use all your skills to approach the round pen with a horse that has very little preparation. This session is very important to Janathan as he has seen so many horses have their confidence ruined as a result of the round pen. He wants to use this session to document a way that you cwould approach the round pen with a young horse in order to get the benefit of what “Round Penning” a horse is supposed to achieve.
Chapter 3: Cam
For entertainment purposes only: Peer into Jonathan’s world with his most spectacular Spanish Stallion, Cam, as they have a very real and intense session playing at Liberty. Just when you’re thinking “Why would Jonathan risk his life to do this?”, he explains how Cam has reinvigorated a passion in him to get up early or stay late for just a few minutes with this horse.
You can learn more about Jonathan Field and his program at http://jonathanfield.net/
The draw will be August 31, 2010. And that is coming up faster than I can believe. Get riding. The summer is going fast.

Hi, I would like to win the DVD set as I am training my 2 – 3year old paint mares and all the help I can get the better…they are kind of started but need more ….thanks Shona
Our 3 yr. old paint quarter horse is already over 16 HH. Anyway he is out at a summer camp this year. He has had very little training, and my daughter is working there for the summer. One of the Wranglers has offered to help train him, use him for training kids and training my daughter with him as well. It is a great opportunity for the camp and ourselves and our horse. He is being ridden and being handled by different people. Kids love him as they can do anything to him. He is getting lots of different kinds of exposure.
The DVD would be really nice as we are just really starting. Thanks.
This Summer i plan on riding my horses as much as i can and giving them the loving care they deserve… I have to train my 5 horses, slowly as they are mostly green, well not my sisters (merrylegs is an amazing pony! ) … =) and one of my ponies has founder so i have to take careful care so she does not get onto any fresh rich green grass… I live love breath horses so I can’t have a day without seeing them!
After all what more can a 14 yr. old do, thats more exciting than riding and caring for horses?!? Well i sure know the answer to that! Nothing!! =) I would love to be entered in the draw… i hope i am not to late! =) Thanks!!
I have 6 horses, 3 are yearlings so they are spending a little time in the round pen now getting ready to be started next year. Lots of ground work. The mare I ride is getting rode as much as possible & plan on doing some cattle events with her in the fall. I spend at least 4 – 5 hrs a day with my horses. My newest addition to the herd is a Peptoboonsmal & Color Me Smart yearling filly!
This summer I have been spending time getting back riding horses! After a break from riding to raise kids, its great to be back in the saddle and out on a horse again. Thank you for the oppertunity to enter the draw
This summer i plan on working with both of my two Quarter horses, Quincey and Rebar!! Unfortunately Quincey hurt his leg last week so we are trying to keep him from walking around to much on his leg. He is the best horse I have ever had he lets us give him 3 needles a day, wash it out 3 times a day and spray his leg with a infection fighter spray 2 times a day. I would have liked to gone trail riding and done a few competitions with him but we will have to do that next year! Rebar is are trouble horse so I’m mainly working on ground work and introducing new things to him. He is a sweetheart in the pasture but once you get on him he starts bucking and when you hold his head so he doesn’t buck he goes down and rolls. I hope that by the end of summer I will be able to ride him and that he will be better behaved. My dream for this summer is to go on a nice long trail ride with Rebar and go swimming with him in our lake!!
I hope i win this DVD i think it could help me with Rebar!
This summer we are taking clinics in dressage, jumping and reining then going to a few shows to have some fun. I love JF and had an opportunity to ride a session with him at the Mane Event. Great horseman!
I am spending my summer keeping two horses excersized with a mixture of round pen, outdoor arena and trail riding. My discipline is Reining and I find that working the horse in these three environments is a good mixture, it keeps them alert, responsive, happy and results in positive progress.
The Round Pen to me is like the driving range at a golf course, a place where you can spend time working on technical elements of whatever discipline you are in, the round pen provides an environment where a horse can concentrate and focus on the rider with very little outside distraction. It is also an enviroment where you can really get to know your horse and build the relationship.
The outdoor arena gives the horse a chance to practice the elements in a more realistic surroundings and gives exposure to the horse which will be an advantage in future competitions.
The trail riding gives the horse a chance to be a horse, when trail riding I am inclined to use as little direction as possible and just let them go.
Happy horse, happy rider, happy rider, happy horse.
I plan on gaining some confidace on the ground this summer, after having a few flying lessons last year!! Sounds like a neat DVD.
Everything from going to rodeos (barrelracing), riding colts, and riding in the feedlot every day. Also, getting excited for some fall clinics. Always looking to learn more and improve….
This year i just bought a new yearling filly and it was so fun to travel on my own to go get her. I am also teaching my four year old filly to go bareback as that is my favourite way to ride!
Hi,
We have a few foals to halter break this year and I think we would benfit a lot from these DVDs. I am always up for learning some thing knew! Kelly
I plan to continue playing with my 4 horses until the snow falls and beyond, as long as the cold weather stays at bay. They really enjoy getting out and experiencing different obstacles and trails through the woods in which I live. Live and ride NATURALLY ~ always.
Hi, – I do not own my own horse yet, that will come with time ( & higher paychecks! lol), being a horseless horse crazy young woman has its setbacks, believe me, but I always keep my head up and save for lessons and the hourly trail ride. I bug my friends that have horses all the time to let me come for a ride every now and then, and I completely drive my boyfriend and my family insane with getting into a horsey conversation about everything all the time! (bless their hearts) My plan for the summer is to save, save, save for a horse of my own, and for lessons. Without my lessons I couldn’t learn more, and I would be lost without them. I will continue to gain knowledge, work out my horsey fears and keep my head up, keep smiling and thanking god he put horses on this earth!

Would enjoy watching Jonathan’s video as my husband watched him in Red Deer. We all learn each and every time we see a trainer working, either we like it or see what we don’t want to do!!!!!!!
It seems I have been doing a lot of ground work as the bugs in the evenings have kept me close to the barn. And I also get out and do some trail riding when I have an afternoon or a nice Southern Alberta breeze. Have seen Jonathan a couple of times and would enjoy seeing his DVD’s and putting some of his exercises to use.
I’ve was fortunate to be able to log many hours in the saddle this summer, training my current reining horse and bringing along a 3 & 4 year old. Most days managing to get them all ridden and saddened now that the days are getting shorter and my summer vacation is over! Enjoyed reining lessons, getting out to a few reining shows and gaining much needed show experience and just mixing up my training on the horses from arena, to fields or pasture where they get exposed to cattle and just new things all around. I’ve learned alot from my horses this summer – they all have something to teach us and encourage us to broaden our knowledge and become better riding partners.
I am riding lots of colts on the trials and just putting on the miles. Once a week in the arena to keep thier skills up to snuff, and other than that, just loading them up and showing them the world!
I’ll be retraining two standard breds off the track to become pleasure horses, training my mini to pull a cart, and enjoying time on the trail with my seasoned Fjord and quarter horses. As much as I love the summer, it’s the shoulder seasons (spring and fall) when there seems to be more time for horses. The afternoon thunderstorms are cutting in to my quality riding time!
Riding horses in the reining ring, and trying to get a few more broke and sold.
I am going to continue to spend time playing with and gentling my adopted wild stallion, who has been making great progress in his ground training as his trust and respect for me grows. I feel our relationship can move over that significant bump to total trust very soon. If the Horse Gods are with me, my goal is to train him to ride by next summer. Jonathan Field’s methods on DVD could definitely help in that process.
Jonathan is a remarkable teacher. I had the pleasure of learning from and passing my Level 1 PNH with him, as well as helping Lisa Rae with a few of his clinics around Calgary. Jonathan makes learning so easy! This summer has been mostly spent building pastures and fences, as well as training a rescue Horse and having almost daily plays with my Horses. Fun times!
This summer I am trying to spend as much time as possible with my horse, both on the ground and in the saddle. I have seen other Jonathon Field video’s and they have been a huge help in developing my relationship with my horse. I am also hoping to trail ride with my daughter and her horse a few times before she leaves for one year overseas. Our shared “horse” time is special and will keep us connected over the next 12 months.
I am continuing to expose them to more obstacles that you see in the Cowboy Up competition, and continue their development and refinement in the hackamore and snaffle bit.
I plan on joing high school rodeo this fall, i jsut started a new barrel mare this spring and she is doing awesome! Very excited to join high school rodeo since i am in grade 12 and this will be the last year i can go in. I just finishing brakeing a beautiful frenchmens guy colt and he is going to be sent out to be seaoned on barrels next year very excited to see how he turns out. Life is simple for me Eat, Sleep and ride horses.
Johnathan Fields videos are great for any horse owner whether you are a trainer or just interested in learning. We just ride for the fun of it, occasionally get to help friends move cattle or doctor. This summer is going fast and I would love to own a valuable series like this to help improve my skills and make me a better horsemen.
I break colts for a living. I am always open to learn new techniques and gain wisdom from what others have learned. You never stop learning. I have watched Johnathan at every opportunity I have had and would love to own a video series from his collection.
I had the privilege of attending one day of Jonathan Field when he was in our area and was in awe of his abilities and just the way he presents himself. Even though i was only a spectator, he included everyone and made all of the audience apart of the clinic. I really wish i could have attended all three days as i am working with a couple of three years olds this summer and i really like his techniques. He has a way of communicating with both horses and people…
Last year i bread my horse expecting a foal, turns out she didn’t take so i bought a halter broke filly this spring! I have been teaching her ground manners and all seven games in parelli. I have seen some of Johnathan’s videos and admire what he does, and that is my goal for my little filly, Lexi. She has come along way since i got her, but i would love to learn more. I also have a older broke horse, Copper. I have been trail riding her and have many more bush wacking adventures to come! My mom also bought a horse this summer and i plan to help her work with him to better his ground manners to make him less pushy.
I saw Jonathan for the 1st time this spring at the Mane Even in Red Deer, AB. I am hooked! He did a demo with his stallion Cam that was totally amazing and I would love to own some of his CD’s.
This summer we have worked lots with all of our horses … We have continued training on 3 of our started mares by teaching them to slow down and relax … I find it is always easy to get your horse to go faster but hard to have them stand and sit. .We have halter trained one of our foals as we ride the mare and don’t want to leave baby loose when we ride so we pony the foal and will be riding mother and foal in the parade in Vilna along with several other horses and riders. I only got to one working cowhorse show this year but that is okay. I watch many different videos so that I can learn from some of the best and Jonathan is one of the best … We trail ride as often as we can and like to exercise training maneuvers while trail riding.
He is amazing!
Please enter me into the draw so I can win the video and be a better horse person Always so much to learn and I know the horses really appreciate it!
Howdy Northernhorse!
We have been doing all sorts of things with our horses this summer! We’ve got a few advertised here so we’ve been continuing training on those geldings! Lots of arena work, can’t wait to hit the trails. We are also going to do demos with the Canadian Horse breed at the Spruce Meadows Battle of the Breeds.
Always enjoy watching Jonathan at the Mane Event – would be neat to get a collection!
I started on my new reining “career” this summer and am having a great time!!! Fantastic people and wonderful sport! Please enter me in the Jonathan Field Horsemanship DVD draw! Thanks!
I have been doing some medieval gaming, a parade, a couple of trail rides, this weekend i’m going on the Alberta Wish Ride, on the Wildhorse Trail, which should be fun. Along with that, I’m also breaking 2 geldings under saddle which has been going quite well.
Lori
I just recently moved and for the past 2 monthes I have been waiting for the ground to dry, so we can make an arena for me to be able to ride my 5 year old APHA mare and start my yearling in the round pen. I would love to win the Jonathan Feild DVD!! My mare is very testy and i am trying to get back my confidence on her, i have found that using what i have learnt from watching Jonathan at the Mane Event in Red Deer to be very inspiring and helped out with the problems i was having with my mare at that time and i think the DVD would be an asset to working with her and starting my gelding this fall/spring.
Please enter me in the draw
Thank You
Dawn-Marie
My horse and I seem to hit it off great, he is new to me, he is just broke for riding and i recognize that he is a fast learner, very calm and has a good head on his shoulders, but we need coaching through to more levels and I have just started to familiarize myself with great names in coaching horsemanship, and Johathan Field keeps coming up. What are the chances?
This year I am getting my sanity back with the love of my horses. My daughter and I lost our best friends (our paint horses) about 4 years ago and I have finally been able to move on and start to get involved with a couple of new loves. I am trail riding and enjoying taking them to clinics. Although I am working 2 jobs at present in my life I still find the time to have a precious moment with my friends. I have 5 that have stolen my heart each in different ways. Their personalities and forgiving attitudes have saved me at the end of the day.
I have seen only a small demonstration by Mr. Fields and absolutely was in awe of his talent with horses.
I’ve spent the summer helping coach my daughters with their horses (that was the main goal). It has been great fun watching their confidence and abilities grow as the weeks go by. I also have 2 young QH that are starting with ground work/round pen work this month-any help is greatly appreciated, as I’m sure a person can always improve on what they are doing!
Just trying to get in as much riding as i can in between long shifts away at work….
Riding as much as possible whether it be in the arena or down the road. Hauled to a ranch this past weekend and that was spectacular riding. Also brought a few challenges such as crossing boggy water.
Over the years I have brought home or given countless horses of varying breeds and sizes that owners lost faith in, I stopped counting at 30. All were worked with and all found new homes with new owners. As of late I have brought home many “off track” horses, both kinds Thoroughbreds and Standardbreds.
Some were a greater challenge than others and would push me to learn beyond what I thought was possible. Jonathan has been an inspiration as well as a never ending source of ways to communicate with the horse. Truly an amazing person and thanks to his wonderful ways the very first horse, after all these years, I thought I would have to ‘put down’ now resides with a wonderful family. Learning a positive approach to working, this particular horse now has a willing attitude towards everything that is asked of her. She is handlable by the youngest member and very close to the father of this child. Pretty good considering at first most men that walked past her stall or pen would have been welcomed with bared teeth and ears back! She waits patiently now at the gate and has a soft nicker and a gentle eye for anyone that is willing to give her some time…another happy ending!
I took my 6 year old to the mountains (for the Alberta Wish Ride, fundraising for the Childrens Wish Foundation) for the first time this summer! He did great! Putting more miles on him and conituing my 3 year olds training is my summer plans. One step forward, 2 steps back is the story of my life with him right now. But we’re working on it!
Hi! It’s been a fun summer. Been doing lots of trail riding with good friends, and ditch riding when I don’t have time to trailer. Lovin’ it!!!
I have been trying all summer to find the time to show my best paint mare, and now that summer is winding down I have the time- but no horse. My mare was just injured very badly in barb wire so the rest of my summer will go to caring for her and getting her healthy again. JF dvds would be great to watch while waiting for my mare to heal, and I could use his tips on my 2010 foals and even on my one and only 3 yr.old!! Love your website- I visit every morning !!
I have been teaching my twin girls how to ride on my trusty horse this summer and thoroughly enjoy watching their smiles and giggles as they trot around then pen. All they think about and want to do is ride, which being a horse lover all my life, couldn’t ask for anything more. I have been giving my nieces the opportunity to ride, whenever they can come out here too. But I still love to sneak out in the early mornings to ride in the river valley while the fog is still thick and the air is crisp and cool. It doesn’t get much better than that!
I am planning on enjoying my best 4-legged friend. Lots of arena practise for dressage, some hacking out in the fields and hopefully a few more trips out to the mountains to enjoy God’s amazing creation!
I plan on teaching my 5 year old to collect and halter braking my 2 year old.Not to mention work on roping off my 5 year old as well
I got a new horse in June, so we have been getting to know eachother and are finally clicking! We have spent the summer trail riding, barrel racing, bonding and becoming new BFF’s!
