August 2010 Free Draw
Don’t enter this draw as it is over. There is probably a new draw that you should enter instead or if not there soon will be. This draw is over. The winner was #82 Jennifer. Thanks for all who entered.
Jonathan Field Horsemanship gave us a copy of their Special Session Series DVD’s called “Triple Play” – Three Horses – Three Sessions – Three Different Levels. We are going to give you a chance to win this DVD for your own collection. All you have to do to enter is click on the “comments” link below and tell us what you are doing with your horse this summer.
This DVD is in three sections:
Chapter 1: One Lucky Foal
Watch as Jonathan plays for the first time with a very special foal who has defied the odds of survival. Hear this amazing story and enjoy imagining the possibilities of her future.
Chapter 2: Stitch
Using a very green, young horse Jonathan shows you how you would use all your skills to approach the round pen with a horse that has very little preparation. This session is very important to Janathan as he has seen so many horses have their confidence ruined as a result of the round pen. He wants to use this session to document a way that you cwould approach the round pen with a young horse in order to get the benefit of what “Round Penning” a horse is supposed to achieve.
Chapter 3: Cam
For entertainment purposes only: Peer into Jonathan’s world with his most spectacular Spanish Stallion, Cam, as they have a very real and intense session playing at Liberty. Just when you’re thinking “Why would Jonathan risk his life to do this?”, he explains how Cam has reinvigorated a passion in him to get up early or stay late for just a few minutes with this horse.
You can learn more about Jonathan Field and his program at http://jonathanfield.net/
The draw will be August 31, 2010. And that is coming up faster than I can believe. Get riding. The summer is going fast.

This summer, I plan on riding, riding, and more riding. We live in northern Alberta, and we are close to beautiful lakes, and hills, and some gorgeous trails. Actually, right out my back pasture takes one to some breathtaking views, and amazing trails. Last summer, I didnt get much riding in at all, I plan on taking full advantage of this gorgeous weather, and riding into the sunset.
Just getting back to riding my horse after a lengthy illness, so just taking it slow and enjoying things. Maybe on to more things next summer.
Please enter me in the Draw for the Jonathan Field dvd.
I love your website -use it to market my horses for the last couple of years.
thanks.
This sounds like a great DVD!. We’ve got lots of kids from teens to grandchildren that would benefit from seeing this. We work with horses everyday. This sounds like a great DVD to add to their passion for horses. Thank you.
I am trying to ride lots, chasing yearlings and going for trail rides on the beautiful summer evenings!
Cool draw!!
I have been competing in reined cowhorse for my first year, which mean shours and hours of convicing my old show horse to pick up her ribs and work off her hind end. This also means I think my legs are in the best shape they’ve been in years!!
I attended a Jonathan Field demonstration in Moose Jaw, SK this year. I was very lucky to win 3 of his DVD’s. It was a renewing experience for me and I have enjoyed his DVD immensely. I have a 4 year old very green broke gelding that I was feeling a little frustrated with as he was so stiff and unyielding. Being a little older (53), I am way past the point of wanting to take chances on being hurt or tossed off. I have taken what I learned from the demo and Jonathan DVD’s and put them into practice with Disco. I am amazed in just a short time what it has done for him (and me). He is now easy to catch, stands still when mounting and is so much more responsive. He’s now respecting my space and seems to ask what I want from him next. I have also started the techniques with my 4 year old stallion (just gelded him last week). He is over 17hh and although we have a very special relationship he has always been pushy. Well, no longer and is now backing up with a very light touch. I am so impressed with these techniques and will continue. I would love to have more of Jonathan’s training videos and hopefully in time will actually take a clinic.
Trying to find more time to ride my wonderful horse. It is sometimes a little hard because it seems like I am always running my kids done the road to one horse show or another!
I’m in the process of fitting a couple of 2 year olds for an upcoming ranch horse prospect sale.
I have a number of horses that I’m currently working with this summer. From halter breaking/gentling a couple of colts, putting ground manners on a yearling filly and a broodmare to riding a two year old colt and a 4 year old gelding. My six year old gelding is currently waiting as the go to guy when I need to get a job done. I did use my six year old lots this spring riding in a drill team. He was so good. Horses make me happy.
I own 3 trained APHA horses. This past winter, I joined the SPDA (pleasure driving) at the WDM in Saskatoon. We drove at Pion-Era, will be in the EX parade & will be giving buggy rides from the WDM. I also joined the GWF (riding club) by Saskatoon that has over 60 members. We have members in all different levels, showing experince, and disciplines. We do trail riding, give it a try days, clinics, shows, etc AND watch DVDs in cold weather. This DVD set would be well watched and appreciated!
Summer is moving pretty fast, just like they all do. I am getting back into riding after about 20 yrs and it feels great. Sometimes it is hard to fit everything in to a day. I could use about 28 hrs instead of the regular 24, oh well.
I’ve taken advantage of the summer and put some miles on all my horses. Time goes by so fast when you are having fun, there is nothing more rewarding than seeing a change in your horse and getting that “feel” and understanding the pressure/release required.
After spending many hours in the arena all spring, we are now hitting the trails.
We are loading up the horses with our tent, sleeping bags, and food and heading out for the high country for a 3 night trek as of tomorrow. Going to get some much needed R&R and some quality time with my husband, dog and horses!
I am trying to get back in the saddle after a very scary riding accident several years ago and it is hard to do when fear is always lurking in the back of your mind.
I am getting up on the horse again though and it feels good!
Spending time at the barn, training and working the mechanical cow.
I’m busy with my just u/s started 6 year old mare, doing ground work with my 3 year old and playing as much as I can with our paint baby who was born in May of this year!
Enjoy learning about ground work. amazed at the results that this makes. after a busy July camping ,weddings, reunions etc., thinking I will have more time now to enjoy playing with the horses……have seen some jonathan Feild dvd,s & think they are good. good teaching tool!
we have been busy all summer hauling down the road… there is nothing better than packing the trailer and heading out for the weekend with our horses.
Well I have a 14 month old son now, and every since I have had him..I find it very hard to get back on a horse ( my nerves get the better of me). But maybe with some inspiration from Johnathan, I will be able to take that step and get back on.
We are trying to adjust to the intense heat we are now having in the Okanagan after a very wet Spring! Riding in the very early morning or late evening is all one can do! Forest fires are starting up again so anyone with a horse trailer or spare space may be called upon to help again! Happy Riding !

Hi, I am working on a large gelding who is not sure who is the boss. The DVD may be a life saver! Love the site.

If it happens that we could be of some help with getting news out – perhaps that you need more horse trailers or places to put the horses or whatever – just let us know. We love to help our horsepeople help each other.
I have the opportunity to go and watch Jonathon Fields this spring…what an amazing horseman…went home and had even more of a passion for ground work. Truly an inspiration he is.
Love Northern Horse. Its the 1st site I check every morning when I go on the computer..keep up the fabulous work!
Thank you Lynn ! That’s what I like about horse people, they’re always ready to drop everything to help their fellow horsemen in need. Just received an emergency email from Horse Council to say that there is no one in the Lillooet area signed up for emergency evacuation or placement as yet. The fire is not contained as it is very steep country.
I am helping my new horse overcome an abusive past. He is learning that he can trust and relax, and that I will be fair with him. It is wonderful to see him come around…
Groundwork, groundwork, and more groundwork with a two year old. And finding an older horse to ride so I don’t miss being in the saddle so much!
My husband and I have been putting miles on our broke horses and starting two beautiful geldings we just got this summer, along with halter breaking our 4 little guys.
Please enter me in the draw. Thanks!
Hi!!
Cool idea for a prize. I was at a clinic in Okotoks a few years back that Johnathan did. He was awesome!!
This summer I am working on breaking a two year old that I bought in February (thanks to Northern Horse) and I am also riding my main horse six days a week. I have been doing barrel racing but am hoping to get in some cutting this fall, so I’ve been working on getting my horse more soft and supple.
Ridng, racing and roping!!!! Enjoying it all.
This year I am planning on training my horse to ride and drive. We are building our round pen and as soon as it goes up training will commence. He will be the first horse I have trained form the ground up.
This summer I, at 42yrs old, have progressed with my now 5yr old QH Paint gelding from running 42 second barrels last year to breaking the 20 second barrier on a full size pattern this year. Together we have tried cattle sorting, gymkhana, goat tying, pole bending, barrel racing, trail riding and basic horsemanship this summer and have enjoyed it all. I started my horse as an unbroke 2yr old after being out of horses for 10yrs or so and decided that I would use Natural Horsemanship with this horse instead of the “Cowboy way” I was raised with, and so have done a lot of research into Jonathon Field (Since he is from Canada), Pat Parelli and Clinton Anderson and and have found that “Natural way” creates a much closer bond between me and my horse.
Sure wish I was in an area that was closer to attend a Jonathon Field clinic. Seems like I am too far
from everything. Saskatoon is closest for any clinics that I could attend. I have trouble finding
time to do much riding at all – too many horses & too much work. Plese enter me in your draw.
I live in the beautiful Crowsnest Pass, which has been getting alot of rain this year, so things are really green. In between the storms I have been riding the mountains, moving cows to new pastures, and some rodeo’s. I love shopping for horses on your website and looking at all the new babies.
I’m working on training my horse this summer. She has lots of holes in her training because up until this year, she’s only been ridden a few times a year. I got her from friends who have lots of horses in various stages of training, but they just don’t have time to finish. So that’s what I’m working on … starting over and filling in the holes so I end up with a great partner.
I saw Jonathan 2 times at the Mane Event,
and I really like his way of teaching and explaining.
Have spent the spring and summer starting my 2 y/o QH gelding, giving riding lessons and pleasure riding my 11 y/o QH gelding. Have managed to fit a couple of shows in as well. What a fun way to spend the summer!
I had the opportunity to attend one of the clinics at mane event Red Deer and was enthralled. I like Jonathon’s ideals and bought the first half of the leader series and have watched them over and over again as I train my horse and myself. I am really interested in the triple play series and would like to be entered in the draw. Thank you
Please enter me in the draw ….. I am trying to improve my training skills! LOL!
This summer I am trying to spend as much time as possible with my horses, whether it be riding in the arena, out on the trail, or simply spending some quality time around the barn. We’ve been on a few organized trail rides and we’ll have some cattle drives to attend this fall. Overall, just a nice relaxing summer spent in the saddle.
I just turned 14 and I’ve trained a little pony. And I’m workin on her little friend! I also ride my own horse lots with and without tack and I take care of someone elses horse. I’m interested in this dvd. I don’t know much about Jonathan Field but I’m interested in learning about how horses think and reading how they react to different things we do to them.
Waiting for my mare to become sound …. will ahve time to watch these. When the time comes, we’ll be back on the trails.
I have been going to school taking summer classes and looking after my horses. I am training a two year old arabian colt, own a very lovely arabian stallion that has an amazing temperament, which I recently bought, am re-starting a mare for riding, and lastly am going to be taking riding lessons. I love doing horse stuff and want to do more!!! I am very avid about working with my horses regularly and do so. I am passionate about helping animals and training horses, since I believe so many horses could benefit from natural horsemanship methods and beyond. I’m a huge fan of learning as much as possible, to allow me to grow and gain valuable experience. Sounds like a great DVD that would offer a unique insight into the horses mind and horse handleing. Yehaw to all your horse people out there. Enjoy the summer!
I loved Jonathan’s clinic at Mane Event. He really described what kind of bond to have with your horse. So thats what i’ve been doig this summer. I recently bought a Overo Paint gelding. 14.3hh and 16 years old, hes my first horse!! He used to be a trail horse in the Jasper mountains. So what im trying to do this summer is create a bond between him and I using Jonathan’s methods. Me and Moca have become insseperable now. Thanks Jonathan!
i have 3 boys 15 to 5 all wont to ride horse and learn to rope.
Just enjoying the trails and trying to avoid those pesky skeeters! Not trying to rush August along but looking forward to cool September nights and bright sunny days. Best time of the riding year.
Am busy working green horses and riding my older ones. I have read some of Jonathon’s material and like what I read. Also had a chance to see him at the Mane Event in Red Deer, understood and enjoyed it.
Dancing the day away. Thank You
