At The Office

Funny story this morning. Dave renewed an ad in the classifieds which automatically moves the counter back to “0″ and then went for breaky. When he came back there was an email in his inbox requesting that he set that ad’s counter to “0″. He checked the counter and there were already 238 hits on this ad in the time he was gone. There are lots of people looking at the classifieds right now. There is certainly more optimism.

High Brow Cat found “infertile”

Back in the “old” days when a stallion became infertile it usually meant that he would be producing few if any more foals. So when I read that High Brow Cat was diagnosed as infertile I thought what a great loss that would be to the cutting world.

I then learned that High Brow Cat’s semen freezes particularly well, in fact his post-thaw analysis is better than many stallion’s fresh samples. And his frozen semen remains fertile for years. In fact when he had a bout of colic a couple of years ago during breeding season they used frozen semen to get his booked mares in foal with a 95% success rate – a better rate, in fact, than when they were using his fresh semen. Comment about Mane Event

I thought this was an interesting comment from one of our blog readers on the Free Draw for Mane Event tickets.

The one comment I would have to make after attending all the main events in Red Deer, is that I have become better for horses. The insight that the events provide through their selection of trainers and technicians is taking horsemanship to a new level. The old term of breaking a horse is slowly slipping away and being replaced with training a horse. The event can take pride in knowing that it has made major proggresive steps in the province of Alberta in advancing the knowledge and abilities of horse owners, which in turn has made the life of a horse more enjoyable and safe. I am looking forward to attending again in April of 2010.

We agree The Mane Event is helping make us better for our horses. We are proud to give them our support.

He was first elected to the AQHA Executive Committee in 2006. He divides his time between Germany and a ranch in the United States. As the international registry of the American Quarter Horse, AQHA is a world-wide organization, and Germany is the ninth-largest AQHA affiliate with 6,675 AQHA members — only seven other states and Alberta, Canada, have more members.  Kansas is ranked 10th with 6,567 members in 2009. Herring Eggs on Beach

The beach in front of our “island office” is covered in herring eggs this morning. The sea was rough yesterday and piled them all up on our beach. Here’s hoping they get washed back out before they start to smell like rotting eggs.
