Free Draw for Ben Crane Print

Mad_Cow_Disease

DO NOT ENTER THIS DRAW. IT IS OVER. Check for a new draw posted on the front of Northernhorse.com.

Some of our horse people are also cattle producers. For some who like to have those nice big calves in the fall calving season is about to begin. We used to calve cows and more than once have found ourselves in a similar predicament to the folks in the Ben Crane print “Mad Cow Disease”. Amazing how fast those old girls can get that shit covered tail winging around. And how their eyes bulge out. And how much help the calve that you were trying to save was as he was fighting to get off the sleigh and making frantic little bawls to fire up Mama even more.

The prize for this draw is a signed print by Ben Crane called  “Mad Cow Disease.

How do you enter? Just post a comment below with the answer to our question.

The question? Are you on Facebook? Have you became a fan of Northernhorse.com on facebook?

This draw will end mid February.

Good luck everyone.

Draw for Reins

Reins

This draw has been drawn. It is all over. Entering will be just a waste of your time. But do check for a new draw on Northernhorse.com. We usually have one going.

Now you get a chance to win a set of reins. Not just any old reins but really pretty reins with horse hair tassels and leather straps. Nice soft rope for your hands. A little extra give for the horses mouth. They are approx. 90 inches long which made them a little short for my mare which is how they got to be “draw” reins (little pun there). About 225 cm for those who are not so old as some of us.

How to enter? Just click on the comment button below, give us your name and email address (emails not published) and tell us how the hay and pasture situation is in your area. I’m not sure of the draw date but probably the end of the month or thereabouts.

Draw for Rights of Passage Tickets

The winner is Debbie with her suggestion of using mineral oil.

Does everybody know about mineral oil already? Plain old mineral oil you get at the drugstore, for keeping wounds moist and keeping flies out. As long as the wound is not infected a coating of mineral oil twice a day will keep the flies away and the edges of the wound soft enough to heal with very little scaring. I used this on a barb wire cut last summer on a little quarterhorse mare(above and below her eye)added bonus it doesn’t sting.

Thanks to all who entered. Be sure to check out the Rights of Passage Event on June 20 & 21 in Olds, Alberta at the Agriplex. We will be starting a new draw in the next couple of days.
