Bridleless Rope Horse

Trevor Brazile on Texaco No Bridle 7.8 Fort Worth Horse Show

Isn’t it fun to watch a horse that really likes to do it’s job?  Do you have a horse that loves his work or does her work bridleless?   Send us photos or links to your videos to lynn@northernhorse.com

At The Office

Herring Eggs on Beach

The beach in front of our “island office” is covered in herring eggs this morning. The sea was rough yesterday and piled them all up on our beach. Here’s hoping they get washed back out before they start to smell like rotting eggs.

Weather

There was no diving today for us. Weather. So I spent a little time checking out what the locals thought was happening with the weather.

Jamaica is famous for its good weather apparently. According to the resort manager this last month has been the worst for him in 20 years because of the rain. There are lots of kids here and many of the parents get pretty stressed when locked in their rooms with their little darlings. So according to him this has been a particularly bad weather spell. Working From Jamaica

One of the blessings (and curses some would think) of working on the web is you can work almost everywhere. Even in Jamaica. So my office today overlooks the beautiful Caribbean Sea. The air is warm and moist. My dried out skin is already plumping up, my hair is a ball of frizz. I swam in the warm salt water this morning but had to quit sooner than I wanted as it seems like only minutes before our sun starved bodies turn pink. Continue Reading »

Christmas Treats

BuzzTreats

I was always taught that giving horses treats is usually a recipe for bad manners. Then we got a bunch of Grandkids. Then we got Buzz.

Buzz loves treats. His former owner Kathy somehow made me feel just a wee bit guilty when I would answer her query of “Do the Grandkids like feeding Buzz treats?” with “Well actually we just don’t feed Buzz or any of the horses treats.” And, of course, the Grandkids found out that horses liked treats – not from me but none-the-less I now had Buzz, the Grandkids and Kathy making me feel guilty. The Present

We received a present in our email from Dixie Stewart. It starts out as follows:

Seeing as it is the holiday season, there is much attention given to the topic of presents.  So I thought I’d tell you a little story about a profound gift I was given this fall.  The telling of this has been percolating in my mind for awhile now, to me it represents the true meaning of a present and has a way of putting things into the right perspective.  If you are in a mood for a little introspection and some insight, read the story and watch the presentation at www.thehorseranch.com.  You just might not believe how it can change your outlook, and how that can in turn shape events.  If you think someone you know might appreciate reading it, feel free to pass it on, even if they are not avid horse lovers the message is universal.  It might be just the thing to put you in the Christmas Spirit!  Here is the start of it.

“My gift did not start out as profound at all, and it sure as heck was not nicely wrapped or presented.  It was a hell of a mess, on one of those cold wet and windy September days – you know the kind, after its rained about four days and is really working itself into a full blown snow storm.”

You can watch the presentation and read the whole story at The Horse Ranch

Unbelievably Lucky Coyote

Meet the wiliest of all coyotes: Hit by a car at 75mph, embedded in the fender, rode for 600 miles – and SURVIVED!

When a brother and sister struck a coyote at 75mph they assumed they had killed the animal and drove on.  They didn’t realize this was the toughest creature ever to survive a hit-and-run.  Eight hours, two fuel stops, and 600 miles later they found the wild animal embedded in their front fender – and very much alive.
