Striker

Here is another story in our Horses we have loved series. Lana Bollers writes: The most memorial horse I can honestly say was the twin, Striker we lost. Striker was born on March 26, 2008 shortly before 4pm. I obtained a call around 4:10 with my daughter saying, “MOM! Mischief had two babies!!” I was in shock, immediately calling my husband and our vet. Continue Reading »

Chelsey

Shantay

At first glance, the horse that now lives only in my memory wasn’t all that remarkable. While many dream of big, black Friesians or graceful, dancing Warmbloods, I dream of a squat little white horse – an Arabian with a straight, almost Roman nose and a propensity for bucking and taking off. Brandy

Brandy and George

Funny how things go. I started a blog about horses we all loved and now I have inherited my mom’s favorite old mare.

Old Brandy has been running on Mom’s farm for many years. Some of you probably knew my mom, Betty McKenzie. Now her herd has been sold off and moved away and I always told Mom I would look after Brandy if Mom wasn’t here to do it and supervise having her put down as gently as possible when the time comes. But we aren’t quite ready for that big, bad day yet. Continue Reading »

Horses in our Memories - Leo

I’m writing to tell you about my favorite old guy. His name was Leo . He was a buckskin quarter horse.  I met his mom Loretta through a lady. We were  talking and I was telling her about a bad experience I had and she sent me to  Loretta.  That is where I  Met Leo. He was 9  years old at that time and what a handsome boy he  was. I fell in love at first sight and I wouldn’t ride anyone else much to the dismay of my friend.  Leo  really helped me to build my confidenceafter only a month.  So much so that I started to barrel race only for fun in Loretta’s corral and other things with him. I wasn’t  scared any more to ride.   I rode him for four years until I had my daughter. When my daughter was 6 months my favorite horse passed away at 25. He was   such a good guy If  I was scared or nervous.  He would stop and look at me as if to say I’m here don’t worry  it’sokay.  I won’t hurt  you. Forever in my heart.

Maggie

Maggie

“Maggie” Rap Music , she a 16 year old 16.hh Reg’d TB mare. She’s the best mare I’ve have the pleasure of owning she’s never been mean to the new horses that are brought in and is always happy to see you. She was raced on the track and you’d never know it sitting on her back she is truly a push button pony you could point her at any fence and she’ll gladly fly over it. Continue Reading »

The Story of Chester

Chester

Chester was very abused as a youngster, he was hard to catch so when his old owners did finally catch him they would beat him for running away. Then some freind’s of our’s purchased him from these people, and turned him in to a wonderful riding horse.Chester never did over come his fear of being beaten. Tim

He was sure a looker!  When the owner took off his blanket I gasped in awe.  He was a 2 year old AQHA gelding named Timberline Playboy or Tim for short.  He was 15.2HH with a gorgeous sorrel coat and a flaxen mane and tail.  He was a western canadian halter champion.  The owner saddled him up and worked him for me and he sure looked good doing it.  After she untacked him she showed me how he would work a fake cowhead attached to a cable powered by bicycle wheels all by himself.  I was impressed!  (Little did I know that his love for cows would cause me so much grief!)  Continue Reading »

A Particularly Wonderful Day

Wonderful George

Yesterday was a particularly wonderful day. Why you ask? Because when I called the herd home for lunch George, my 26 year old retired saddle horse,  was loping along right at the front instead of coming up near the rear. Proud as punch. He looked so beautiful even with his furry coat and a body that is, like mine, starting to show some signs of age. It was particularly wonderful because on Sunday I had let one of my grandsons, 6 year old Davan, ride him and George, having never liked anyone but me to be on his back, (and not having been ridden for a few years) was a bit tense and worked himself harder than he needed to. Just walking and jogging but because he was so tense I was worried he would be stiff and sore afterward. Continue Reading »

To Cheyenne

Hi; Checking out your website and thought I would send along this poem I wrote for a QH/Thoroughbred mare I bought as a seven year old, quite a few years back. She was definitely special. The names in the poem are grandchildren, Grady being a great grandson. Continue Reading »
