204L was Champion Horned Dorset Ram at the 2023 All Canada Classic.

204L is a son of a Janicki ram that is pretty much an outcross for most Canadian flocks. His dam goes back on the paternal side to British genetics and on the maternal side to the flock of Monte Forster in Oregon. 204L is a long bodied individual. Scrapie genotype is pending. 204L shows and sells in the All Canada Classic in Barriere, BC, July 7-6.

143L was Champion Horned Dorset Ewe at the 2023 All Canada Classic.

Probably my best Horned Dorset ewe lamb from the January lamb crop. Her sire 996G is my main flock sire. I really like his lambs of both sexes, but especially his daughters. They are quickly becoming my best ewes. I should be keeping this one, but have decided to enter her in the All Canada Classic in Barriere, B.C.. She is long on British genetics with a large shot of genetics from the Monte Forester flock from Oregon (one of the best traditional US flocks that has now been dispersed). See her in Barriere July 7-8.

Single out of a yearling; birth weight 13.5 lbs.; 100 pounds at 83 days of age. Long, deep, thick, and grew like a weed. Scrapie genotype QR. The youngest ram lamb that made the cut, he rapidly became the biggest Canadian ram in the pen! Goes back to the Sawyer C 4Z ram, as well as both AI sires. What more can you ask for?

His dam is a daughter of the first-generation Polycott 551Y ram, and a granddaughter of the foundation Canadian Arc 559X ram. These are the sheep that hit the reset button, back to the beginnings of the breed. Again, I have to reiterate that any breeders who feel that in 30+ years we should have "improved" this breed by leaps and bounds is not giving enough credit to the people in the program that created it in the first place. They knew what they were doing, and they knew what they were attempting to produce. Let's not be arrogant about how much we can improve them when in reality, bad selection will make them worse far faster than good selection can make them better. (Grading up would make them worse yet.)

This ram has been selected to sell in the Badlands Spring Select Sale in June 2024. Because of his younger age (he was the very last ram lamb born in the winter group), we just left him to do his thing. He has never been offered for sale, and when I saw how good he looked in the fall, I immediatley earmarked him for the June 2024 sale. And now he is a bruiser! Well worth the wait!

An in-dam purchase from Don Johnston's Sky Blue flock, this guy is sired by a really good Sheep Trax ram and out of a ewe that goes back to the FCLB 43895C ram from Quebec. The grandsire 260F can be seen in the photos at the top of this page, he was the Champion Ram at the 2019 Priddis & Millarville Fair. This grandson is carrying on the thickness and smoothness of the FCLB ram (260F's sire), who left his stamp on a lot of sheep.

There are two brown females in this litter of four. They have both been swabbed for genetic coat color testing, and one of them is being sold to another breeder, choice to be made pending test results. The other one was spoken for too, but then they purchased another brown female when her sale fell through. Therefore I am leavng them both marked SALE PENDING!

As soon as color panel results are back, one of these girls will be spoken for and the other one will be marked "available".

This little girl, affectionately nicknamed "Chiffie", a Cree word meaning "little girl", was the runt of the litter. And while still the smallest, she is not really small. At their vet check on April 11, she was 7.5 weeks and weighed nearly 800g, which is right on track for a female. She LOVES her food! And she is also very cuddly. Whomever gets this kitten, you will not be disappointed!

Beautifully marked silver male from Catalina and Bugsy! He looked quite dark from birth, and I attributed that at first to his being a melanistic carrier. But now (see photos) I am beginning to wonder if he is actually a charcoal. It is very difficult to find information on the development of charcoal in the breed. It is commonly assumed that they are obvious at birth (with the possible exception of seal lynx snows), but I am not so sure. I have seen a photo of another silver charcoal that at two weeks of age was not really obvious. If someone is truly bound and determined to know (or for instance, if someone wanted him for breeding), he can always have a genetic color panel test done.  As of April 13, 2024, he is available! NICKNAME CHARLIE.

Though I knew Bagheera was a marble carrier, I had become so engrossed in producing chrarcoals that it didn't even occur to me that Catalina might be too. Well, she is! This kitten came out as black as night, but with the  obvious mask-and-goggles and lighter feet of the charcoal. (She can only be a charcoal, as her sire is a melanistic and her dam is an Apb carrier.) But as time went by, the spots did not appear. One week, two weeks, nothing. That was when I realized she must be a marble. And after a few more days I realized she must be a sheet marble! That is exactly what the name implies- the marbling is in wide sheets across the body. Marbles are not as popular as rosetted Bengals, but sheet marbles hold a special place in the hearts of breeders. Sheet marbles are used to produce outstanding rosettes.

I realize that right now it is almost impossible to tell what this kitten is going to look like. I will post new photos as her pattern opens up. SALE PENDING!

This twin ram lamb has shown the phenomenal growth represented on both sides of his pedigree. His sire was a very well-muscled triplet (whose sister was probably the fastest-growing ewe lamb I have ever raised), and his dam is now quite possibly the largest Canadian Arcott ewe in the flock (and her mother was undeniably the largest ewe in the whole flock, no matter the breed). There is a big British-style Suffolk ram lamb in the pen, and this guy is the same size. Just a big, growthy, thick, deep-bodied young fella. Scrapie genotype is pending. New photos will be put up after shearing. Look for this ram in the Badlands Spring Select Sale, on DLMS Farmgate, May 31-June 1.

Here is a ram for your consideration, especially if you don't have a problem with line breeding. This ram is line bred to just about the best ewe family you could ask for. Both sides go back to the old Sawyer C 104W ewe, and that was a ewe that could not put a foot wrong. The paternal grandmother Genesis 927G is a daughter of my beloved old Badger 83B, and the maternal grandmother 367A was Badger's half-sister- both out of 104W. I hate to keep repeating myself, but I will say it again- the animals that keep appearing on pedigrees are there because they worked, over and over again. This ram is smooth and long and has great bone. He is the one for those who like the color! Scrapie genotype is pending. New photos will be put up after shearing. Twin-born ram, lots of growth and muscle on this guy! If you want something unusual on a pedigree, his dam was AI-sired by the old Romance 170E ram, something you will not find anywhere else (we had to do some pretty serious searching to find the last two straws!). And if you want something consistently good on a pedigree, well look no further than the sire Canon 233K. Not only is he out of Clover 540C (another one of those names that keeps popping up on pedigrees), but he is AI-sired by the foundation ram Canadian Arc 559X. Canon 233K was admittedly a single, but his dam raised him at the age of 7, and he was 115 pounds at 76 days of age. You want 'em to grow? Have a look at this guy. Scrapie genotype is pending. New photos will be put up after shearing. Look for this ram in the Badlands Spring Select Sale, on DLMS Farmgate, May 31-June 1.

Twin-born ram going back to just about every line I would pick if you asked me to create the ideal pedigree. Both AI sires, Canadian Arc 559X and Polycott 551Y, Clover 540C, and Delilah 192D who goes back to the Sawyer C 76X ewe family.  I think a lot of breeders who have not used my lines would be very surprised (and once he is registered I will check myself to prove it) to do a virtual mating to just about any of their ewes and see just how low the inbreeding coefficient on the resulting lambs would be. Don't believe me, see for yourself! And don't get me wrong, if you have not used my lines and you are line breeding, I don't have a problem with that! If nobody line breeds, and we all use the same thing, there won't be any more separate lines, there will just be one.

Look for stretch and excellent bone on this ram. He should also have the lovely smooth shoulders that I specifically select for, I do not select big, square shoulders. This is a breed that is easy fleshing and knows how to grow big lambs, so lambing ease is facilitated by smooth, wedge-shaped shoulders. The 233K sire is programmed for growth and gain. Scrapie genotype is pending. New photos will be put up after shearing. Look for this ram in the Badlands Spring Select Sale, on DLMS Farmgate, May 31-June 1.

I am still on the fence about putting this ram in the Badlands Spring Select Sale. Pedigree-wise, he is unbeatable. However, due to the advanced age of his dam (she raised a set of twins at the age of 8, and I did not supplement them), I would like to see just a little more bulk on him. I reserve judgment until after he is shorn. (His sister, though- wow! She WILL be in the sale.) He is smooth  and long and correct, so I am reserving judgment on his thickness and depth until early May.

Pedigree-wise, though, he can't be beat. The Pol 943G ram sadly died in March of 2023.(He is still listed here as a reference sire so you can see what he looked like.) He was one of the best rams I ever raised. And Clover 540C? How many times can I say it? She just rocks.

Scrapie genotype is pending. New photos will be put up after shearing. Look for this ram, potentially, in the Badlands Spring Select Sale, on DLMS Farmgate, May 31-June 1.

Granddaughter of one of the AI sires (foundation ram Canadian Arc 559X) and great-granddaighter of the other AI sire (first-generation ram Polycott 551Y), this is a beauty of a twin ewe lamb. Going back to Genesis 927G means she also goes back to my beloved old Badger 83B ram. Her grandmother Daisy 126D is another of those names that keeps popping up on pedigrees, and in February of this year, at 8 years old, she had triplets! Can't go wrong with those ancestors! There is good length, growth, and size here.

This ewe, like all the ewes in the group, will be ready for breeding this summer and you can confidently put her with a ram for this coming winter lambing. Look for this ewe in the Badlands Spring Select Sale, May 31-June 1, on DLMS Farmgate.  The twin brother to this ewe is also  going to sell in the Badlands Spring Select. This ewe has excellent depth and thickness. Being a daughter of Harlie 91H means she is programmed to be a big girl, and she is also a potential accelerator, as her mother has previously lambed out of season. This ewe has a really interesting pedigree. The old 117D ram was a triplet son of a Sawyer ram and out of a Zubot ewe. The dam has an equally good bunch of ancestors. Her sire VCSF G782 was sired by my FCLB 43895C ram from Quebec (Veteran Colony brought some ewes here to be bred to that ram), and her dam was sired by my Pol 943G ram (who originally sold to Veteran Colony in the 2019 All Canada Classic, and I bought him back two years later). When animals worked for you, and you also know they worked for others, you appreciate your flock even more. This ewe is really thick and deep-bodied, and with those rams in her background she just can't disappoint.

This ewe, like all the ewes in the group, will be ready for breeding this summer and you can confidently put her with a ram for this coming winter lambing. Look for this ewe in the Badlands Spring Select Sale, May 31-June 1, on DLMS Farmgate. There will be new, better photos after they are shorn! (If you need the ewes scrapie genotyped, please let us know asap so we can have it done in time for the sale.)

Another one that is probably going to be a big girl. Her dam's mother, Chloe 535C, is a really big ewe. 535C is a twin out of Sawyer C 73R, who was 10 years old at the time, and raised the lambs just fine. She herself is now 9 and is lambing in May of 2024. There is longevity here! And the 13H ewe is also a big bruiser of a girl, who lambed again in February this year with a ewe lamb that weighed 43 lbs at 36 days of age. 302L's sire 943G was such a phenomenal ram, I can't keep repeating myself about that ram. Size, growth, and longevity!

There's Justice 212J again! Clearly a lot of his lambs from May of 2023 made the cut. (He can be viewed on this page as a reference sire.) Going back to Polycott 551Y, Sheep Trax Daisy 126D, Sheep Trax Badger 83B, and Sheep Trax Alice 333A means that 212J had a lot of the odds stacked in his favor. Polly 222K is also a Polycott 551Y daughter, so this daughter is line bred to a first-generation ram. The grandmother Candy 945G is one of my favorite ewes, who has been to more than one show in her lifetime. The depth, the thickness, the bone, it's all here.

If you like your pedigrees a little different, here is a ewe out of a GAVL ewe from Quebec. That ewe was finally culled just recently, at 8 years old; she had a good run here. She always produced good lambs, often had twins, and bred out of season. I loved her Germanie x Germanie pedigree. Sired by my favorite ram of all time, Sheep Trax Canon 233K, makes 324L a granddaughter of Clover 540C; this ewe is long and deep, thick and correct.

If Clover 540C isn't on almost every listing in one way or another, she sure comes close. She was 8 years old when she raised this ewe and her brother, and she is lambing again this May at 9 years of age. And being a daughter of the 943G ram makes this ewe just that much more special. There will be no more daughters of that ram (though there will be granddaughters and grandsons, as I kept a son last year). There is longevity here, no doubt about it. Of course that doesn't matter to everyone, but if it matters to you, have a look at this girl. The dam goes back to old Napkin Farm and Sawyer sheep, so that could appeal as well!

There are two brown males in this litter. One is spoken for, the other is not. However, right now (at 9 days of age on April 13th) they are virtually identical. One is smaller than the other, but their color and markings are virtually indistinguishable right now.

Therefore I am listing them separately, but one is marked "sale pending" and the other is "available". Once we get them to the point where selection can happen, I will update the listings.

Beautiful seal lynx snow, the largest kitten in this litter. He is potentially a charcoal, with the snows, and especially the lynxes, it is almost impossible to tell at birth, and the coloration will come in as he grows. He has been spoken for!

The charcoals that are brown underneath are always obvious at birth, no doubt about this little girl! Mel's previous charcoals have turned out full of beauty, attitude, and sass. So here's another one! Still available as of April 13th, 2024.
