rare Bay Silver AQHA breeding...
Bar U Champ Binder

Welcome to our new website. We are delighted to showcase rare Bay Silver (Silver Dapple) genetics! For years we noticed some of our foals showing very striking color with their dark bodies and flaxen / silver manes and tails.  We were contacted by a horse-colour enthusiast from U.S.A., saying they recognized the silver dapple characteristics in Bar U Champ Binder, which had never before been recorded in a Quarter Horse.  A hair sample submitted to UC Davis in late 2004 for DNA confirmation of colour genetics.  Confirmation of the Bay Silver (Z) gene was then sent to AQHA, who contacted us asking to change Champ's official registration.  On January 27, 2005, his colour was officially changed from 'chestnut' to 'bay' with a notation on the registration that he carried and expressed the elusive silver gene. Bar U Champ Binder (1981 - 2009) was the first 'silver' confirmed and recognized by AQHA, and today most AQHA horses with Bay Silver (Silver Dapple) colouring are decendants of Bar U Champ Binder.

We are now raising a replacement stallion - a grandson of Bar U Champ Binder also carrying the rare gene.  Chinky Silver is already proving to have the conformation and personality we expect in our program.
