Rusty
2006 draft/quarter horse cross Red Roan Gelding 16'1hh 1300lbs

Take to the Stettler Horse Expo this spring as my guide horse for the packing demo we put on.
We bought Rusty through a friend and had 60 days on him and was ridden by a older man, but with the horses size was not a fit. The day I bought him and brought him home he was saddled in the pack saddle and put into the line. He did fantastic, even when we flanked him with the back cinch...no buck. I rode him that night and he has some grand movement to him. Very smooth to ride and he is gentle soul and very athletic. He is in need of some miles and he will be an awesome buy in the fall!
UPDATE! Rusty has done very well this summer. He was used in the pack string and I trained a lot of pullers or jerks off of him because he has the size and he didn't put up with rude horses, he was an asset! Bit tall for packing coming in at 16'1hh but you sure can pack a lot on him! With the guest line he was used for guests who could ride because he is not some lazy dazy horse, he is a shaker and a mover when asked. As a guide horse he is a whole lot of fun because of how sure footed and the energy he can bring to the plate. On one steep climb my horse fell to his knees so I bailed and let him go while I hung on to his tail to get up, Chuck went straight up with Rusty then across the steep bank back to me. (this is on his video) We have used both a snaffle & curb in his mouth, he moves off the leg and gives nice to the bit. We have thrown a rope off of him, dragged everything including bales, the wagon, water jug in a crate & wood. We also used him in the harness with both Arivd & Bonnie, he did excellent. He was used for the month of August taking all the guests gear up river to our high camp. We also used him for dragging in fire wood.
As for his personality, he is a big ole teddy bear at times but other times he can get hyped up and need a rider who can handle his hyper side. With Rusty he is still immature mentally and needs another year to grow into the strong horse that he is He is very sure of his body & with this fun to ride in the mountains because this summer he gained confidence while getting in shape . We would like to see him go to a horse family who can continue with him as he is the perfect mountain/ranch horse because he packs, rides and drives! You only one horse to do all your riding...we have really enjoyed him but he is not for a beginner at this time but down the line he sure will be...potential PLUS! He has one of the biggest hearts I have seen in a horse in awhile!
