We are located at Sundre, Alberta-gateway to the west country. Our family run farming operation is nestled in the foothills of the majestic Canadian rocky mountains. We specialize in export timothy hay and high quality forage for the equine industry. We also raise purebred Simmental cattle and cowbred performance Quarter horses. Our focus at Nielsen Farms is to produce the highest quality product we can. Customer satisfaction is the heart of our business. We take a great deal of pride in what leaves our farm.

Our cattle herd has evolved from a commercial operation to a purebred Simmental herd with a focus on red genetics. A small, yet powerful horse program contains some of the best bloodlines available. These include Doc's Hickory, Doc O Lena, Peptoboonsmal, Dual Banditos Gold and Whiz N Tag Chex. Good minds and solid conformation remain top priorities.

Svend emigrated from Denmark in 1975. He farmed in the Cremona/Carstairs area and purchased our home place in 1980. From here we continue to operate an intensively managed farm using the latest technology and information tools available to the agriculture industry. Nielsen Farms has a new Herdsire!

Nielsen Farms is excited about the new addition for breeding season. X-T Red Upstart 84U was purchased at Simmsational in Sask in December, 2009 from X-T Simmentals.

We unfortunately lost our NUG Red Dog son this summer due to injury. YR Red Bulldog formed the beginning of our red program and he is hard to replace. We are fortunate to have retained all his replacement females in our herd. Red Upstart brings some new TNT Top Gun genetics to our herd and we will be looking forward to his first calves.

Tao has been a stand out bull since birth. His sire SF What A Dream is siring progeny that are correct with performance and muscle. His Peltons Powercat dam is a moderate, broody female we would like to have more of. With an easy 88lb. BW and good performance we believe he is a good bet for the heifer pen or the cow herd.

This is a bull that displays extra length, balance and style with a great haircoat. He is out of a small but very correct Branded Beef daughter who really produced. We purchased this cow from Movald Ranches and are we glad we did! This bull performed very well with an excellent set of EPD's. We held this fellow back and used him in our own herd extensively this year. We really like his calves, they come easy with small heads and are very vigorous at birth.
This bull is now working at Harper Farms in Eagle Hill.

He is has been our Senior Commercial herdsire, and bred to our Purebreds as well. We have retained many of his daughters and he has been an outstanding bull for us. We are pleased to introduce this promising young herdsire to our program. His sire, the great Red Dog has left his mark on the Simmental industry. This young fellow is certainly following in his footsteps. We purchased "Bulldog" at the TOP GUNS IV sale from Yellow Rose Cattle Co. He is our walking sire for our purebred herd. We are extremely pleased with the consistency of his calves. Gentle, quiet and easy doing accompany the performance he passes to his offspring. This is the easiest keeping, low maintenance bull we have owned.
