ABOUT US
The Concept
Members will nominate and sell their registered weanlings with fifty (50) percent of the selling price going to the breeder of record (as determined by the pertinent breed association definition); forty (40) percent of the selling price going to the futurity purse; five (5) percent of the selling price going to a Breeders' Award Program; and five (5) percent of the selling price going to operating/administrative expenses.Horses, sold as weanlings, will return in the fall of their two-year-old year to compete in an event that will demonstrate their quality, conformation and performance using as a standard an acceptable level of suitablility for purpose as determined by the competition judge(s).
Membership Committee Membership is open. In order to participate, breeders must be members of the Alberta 50/50 Pot O'Gold Committee. There is a one-time, lifetime membership. Membership fee is $1000.00.
Each membership carries with it one (1) seat, a single voting right, on the Alberta 50/50 Pot O'Gold Committee. In addition to the lifetime membership fee, there will be an annual fee of fifty (50) dollars; payable beginning in the next calendar year after the lifetime membership fee has been paid, but in no case after July 20th of that year.*
Program Rules
- Each member will be limited to a total of two (2) weanling nominations each year.
- For all weanlings going through the sale ring, fifty (50) percent of the final bid price will be paid to the Alberta 50/50 Pot O'Gold Sale and Futurity.
- To qualify for the two-year-old futurity, all horses must have gone through the Alberta 50/50 Pot O'Gold sale ring.
- Every person to nominate a weanling to the sale must be an Alberta 50/50 Pot O'Gold member AND the breeder of record (based on the breed registry definition) on that weanling's registration certificate. Horses changing ownership after the Sale but before the Futurity, retain their eligibility for the Futurity, if and only if, the Committee has been notified by said horse's current owner. To avoid a late fee, the notification must be made to the Committee by September 1. All moneys will go to the current owner of the entry.
- Any dispute/complaint must be submitted in writing to the Committee chair, within 24 hours of the alleged infraction, with a fee of $250.00 cash. The dispute/complaint will be heard at the next regular meeting of the Committee. If the Committee votes to dismiss the dispute/complaint, the fee will be forfeited. If the Committee upholds the dispute/complaint, the fee will be returned.
- National Snaffle Bit Association rules will apply unless otherwise stated.
- Members may nominate their weanlings to the sale up to July 20th of each year. If space is limited by stall availability, first-com-first-served, based on postmark date will apply.
- All dates of compliance will be based on postmark date.
- All fees and payouts are based on Canadian denomination.
Fees For Purchaser
- All entry fees to the Alberta 50/50 Pot O' Gold Futurity are paid for the new owners with their purchase of the weanling.
- There is an office fee, judge's fees and stall fees payable by the person entering the two year old in the futurity. If paid before July 20th, the fee is $300.00 and includes a listing of the horse in the program. After July 20th, the fee doubles and it cannot be guaranteed that the horse will be listed in the program due to printing deadlines.
For Consignor
- By July 20th, a $50 fee per weanling must be received with each nomination to the sale. This fee will pay for a halter with a 50/50 noseband and a lead. This ensures each weanling passing through the sale ring will be uniform. If the nomination is not postmarked by July 20th, the fee doubles to $100.00 per weanling. In the case of a scratch, seller will be reimbursed for the price of the halter and lead.
For Administration
- Auctioneer fees, facility, and stall fees for the weanling sale are all paid out of the administrative budget allocation of five (5) percent.
Sale order of weanlings will be determined by a computer generated random list.
