BAR L NAVAJO SPARK

2019 AQHA Chestnut Gelding | 15.3 hh

Outstanding AQHA Bloodlines

Tally Man • Doc Bar • A Grand Dandy • Shining Spark • Poco Bueno

Ace is a serious, athletic, big-moving gelding with the pedigree, stamina, and brain to excel in English disciplines and endurance, with the versatility to go Western for the right rider.

AQHA PAPERS & BLOODLINES

Ace’s AQHA papers strongly reflect his personality and work ethic:

• Shining Spark / Poco Bueno – smooth movement, athleticism, stamina, and a strong desire to work

• Doc Bar / A Grand Dandy – intelligence, quick reactions, sensitivity, and trainability

These bloodlines are well known for producing horses that learn quickly, try hard, and excel when given a job, which is exactly who Ace is.

GENERAL TEMPERAMENT

Alert, intelligent, and very aware of his surroundings.

On the ground, he is an absolute love bug—affectionate, snuggly, and enjoys human interaction - anyone can handle him, as he comes right down to the person's level.

Under saddle, he is sensitive, quick-thinking, and extremely smooth.

This is NOT a kid's horse. This is NOT a beginner's horse. This is NOT a timid rider's horse!!!

Best suited for a confident, experienced rider with educated hands.

Best Suited For...

Primary Disciplines

  • English/Hunter
    • Patterns very well, moves very smoothly in a show ring.

  • Showmanship/Halter
    • He is alert, moves when asked, squares, likes to 'show off.'
    • Showmanship is not my forte, but we have dabbled in it with Ace - and he has been a pleasant surprise!

  • Jumping (schooling required to finish)
    • Has been shown in hunter classes, mainly cross-rail patterns and jumping 2 ft. He successfully completed his 2ft class in Moose Jaw this past fall. Fill is still scary (hence needing a confident rider!). Has jumped an oxer successfully. Jumping is still in a schooling phase with scope and potential to jump the 3 ft classes with the right rider!

  • Endurance Riding
    • Raced in the spring run in Dundurn (May 2025)
    • placed 3rd in the 25-mile race, timing in at 3.5 hours
    • Clean vet checks at the beginning, midway, and at the end of the race.
      • Ace has excellent cardio, recovery, and stamina, making him well suited for competitive endurance riding or conditioning-heavy English programs.

Secondary Disciplines

  • Ranch / Ranch Riding (everyday work as well as shown in breed show classes)
  • Western Show / All Around (Has been shown at breed show level)
  • Barrels/Gymkhana (training will  be required!)
    • He is capable of Western shows and Western work. He does show great potential for the low and slow, but I find its not where hes super happy!

 Training and Riding

Broke horse with a quick, sensitive brain

Ace knows his job and performs very well when asked correctly. He is responsive, soft, and forward-thinking. He may react before thinking at times, but once settled, he is exceptional to ride.

    •  Light in the bridle
    •  Extremely responsive to seat and leg
    •  Smooth walk, jog, lope transitions
    •  Picks up correct leads
    •  Simple lead changes
    •  Solid whoa — sits deep
    •  Backs straight
    •  Turns willingly both directions

Ride him quietly and correctly, and he is a dream. Ride him rough or “cowboy,” and it won’t end well.

 Riding Notes

  •  Shown at open and breed shows. Has been hauled a fair amount.
  • We do a lot of outside riding and long conditioning rides. Long trotting is our friend!
  • He is more confident when in an arena (even outside), but we ride in and out
  • very forward and willing—I do suggest a line of contact— No loosey-goosey dropped reins for this boy!
  • Ride him in a waterford bit and you will do great.
  • He is very alert and attentive—the rider must stay engaged and focused
  • Has never bucked, kicked, bitten, or run away. He will scoot and dart every once in a while, but this is literally why you need to be paying attention to prevent this or ride the scoot and refocus him once more.

Ground Manners

  • absolute sweetheart on the ground.
  • loves attention and snuggles
  • stands excellent for the farrier
  • Currently barefoot
    • I often shoe him in the spring
  • UTD on wormer
  • loads in a trailer with no hesitation (he will not back out... he will literally turn into a pretzel to walk out forward... it's just one of his little quirks)
  • easy to catch and work around.
  • does not pull or paw/dig
  • will stand patient for days
  • Vaccines and a negative Coggins test were done in the Spring of 2025
  • Long, straight legs. Never has been lame or sore Vet check welcomed at buyer's expense.
    • A full vet check last spring when we ran endurance left him a sound and healthy horse with no physical qualms to hinder riding.
  • Currently fat, hairy, and enjoying winter downtime, ready for someone to put him back to work and bring out his full potential.
